Fastest WR corps ever

  • There was some debate in the "Ask Tony" thread today, and I thought it was interesting. Somebody said, perhaps a little sarcastically, that this was the fastest WR corps in USC history. I thought about it, and he may be on to something: Eddie Miller and Robert Brooks were fast, but if you take Ace, Damiere, Bruce, Shaq, and DL, I don't see how you could be much faster.

Damiere probably runs in the 4.25 range. Bruce is 4.4, no doubt, same with Ace. Shaq I do not know, but DL ran high 4.4 in training. Which group was faster than this one? KJ Brent, the backup to DL, ran a 4.4 in training as well.

I agree probably based on past data that this would be the fastest. But you have to remember that most of the kids nowadays are a lot faster at their respective positions than guys that played a decade or more ago. There is so much more physical training at a young age that didnt exist just a few years ago. So while yes this is the fastest, I think that it's really hard to gauge. I mean Brooks and Miller might have been faster compared to their competition than this group is to theirs, but that is nearly impossible to measure.

  • Cory Bridges and Marcus Robinsson could both haul ass....both ran track as well....Calvin Owens was pretty fast as well....Shah Mays ran track, but he may have been a little after those guys.

Troy Williamson and Matthew Thomas both could run....and I cant remember either of them getting caught from behind and Williamson out ran guys who had angles on him multiple times.

    I loled.

You remember that spring practice when Taqiy Muhammed was so awesome? I still remember my dad looking at me and rolling his eyes and saying "Thats because he is being covered by Teddy Crawford"

I have a hard time awarding the "fastest in history" title to a receiving corp that, during this very recruiting process, is openly acknowledged to need an infusion of speed. I think they're going to be a great group when all is said and done but not the fastest ever @ USC.

I'm a little confused. When did they say we lacked speed at the position? There is no way anybody can say we do not have speed at the WR position. Byrd alone is probably in the top 2 or 3 fastest we have ever had.

  • It's up there but Sterling and Ryan Bethea would be up there as well.

  • Thomas/Williamson would probably be the fastest. Thomas was actually faster than Williamson in the 40 (not 100).

  • I could care less how fast any of them are... its how much separation they can create. This is where we have failed
