Gaffney QB Joey Copeland

  • He sounds like a good QB on the best team in the state. Was wondering why he isnt getting recruited? and if anyone has seen him play? what kind of player is he? his numbers are pretty ridiculous. 35 total TDs in 6 games not to mention the starters are normally taken out early in 2nd half of the games.

  • I don't get to make it to alot of Gaffney games (actually hardly ever) but I saw him play Clover this past Friday night.

Guy is NOT a QB on the next level. Strong arm, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn on several occassions. He is a very athletic QB that excels on the HS level due to his athleticisim and the talent around him.

Also watched Q. Davis. Very talented guy with a huge upside, but I was dissapointed in his tangibles such as blocking and route running. If the ball wasn't coming to him the Indians had 10 men on the field. Can be corrected, and will be corrected in college, but just my observations. Kid has a TON of talent and wish he would have committed to USC.

Best player on Gaffney's team against Clover was #1 - Rb. Don't know his name, but I love the way he accelerated and hit the hole.

I look for Gaffney to win the State (again) this year.

  • He is not a good QB. He is all over the place.

Q Davis on the other hand IMO is great WR. Hands and getting his body in position to catch the ball really stand out.

  • Others being a bit more blunt than the tact I took, but on-point nonetheless.

  • Thanks for posting Paul. What is the vibe on the happenings @ Carolina on the other sites?

You saw by far Copeland's worst game of the season. I think the bye week hurt his accuracy but he started getting it back towards the end of the game. You don't get stats like he has when you can't hit the broad side of a barn. He's completing 70% of his passes on the season and has passed for 24 TDs and only 4 interceptions. Regardless of what some people in this thread have said 60-70% of his pass attempts are over the 10 yard range, not a majority of quick screens. He didn't make the Shrine Bowl for no reason. Obviously Quinshad catches everything in his area code but Copeland is an above average passer. All that being said he will probably end up at SC State but I wouldn't be surprised if he could turn into a good ACC/Big East caliber QB. This is his first year playing QB so that's one of the main reasons his offer list is lacking.

Also there was a big reason Quinshad had to lay off of his aggressiveness in the blocking game and if you were watching you know exactly why. The refs were absolutely horrible and that's putting it nicely. Quinshad got called for holding 2 or 3 times in the game and none of the calls were even close.

  • I could see him being developed in a navy or Georgia tech offense
