Gamecocks have one of the smallest recruiting budgets in the SEC

  • The Gamecocks have one of the smallest football recruiting budgets in the SEC, only Texas A&M (who sits in a hot bed of football talent) has a smaller budget (Vandy is unknown because they are private, but also likely less than USC). The numbers are staggering, some of our competitors are spending more than FIVE TIMES as much on recruiting as USC.

USC is definitely the most efficient with their recruiting dollars (based on average class ranking). And it's great that our coaches have been able to do more with so much less, but maybe we need to spend a few dollars more.

Comparing Razorback Recruiting Class Expenses, Results With The SEC - ArkansasSports360.com

Traditionally, Arkansas has finished near the bottom half of the SEC in recruiting rankings each February. Classes are usually strong enough to rank in the Top 30 nationally, but aren't as highly regarded as the Razorbacks' league peers. Those results haven't come as a result of limited spending.

  • Y'all really think SOS wouldn't get a larger budget if he wanted it?

I can't see SOS crunching numbers or spending a whole lot of time worrying about the recruiting budget.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

So if the head guy isn't worried IYO, ten why are some fans?

Not all people share the same point of view. Besides, I didn't mean to imply that SOS isn't worried about the recruiting budget. It's more likely, I'd say, that he's disinterested.

I will give a shout-out to SOS for being around for the recent batch of unofficial visits. Most of The players described their meeting with SOS as a highlight, if not the highlight, of their trip.

  • OBC doesnt like spending money on recruiting agencies.

  • I think people are getting to caught up on the word "budget". The report reflects real dollars spent, rather than what is actually allotted to the coaches to spend. Also I would suspect that each university does not classify all expenses the same way.

We must be looking at different lists.

Granted, BAMA spends a lot, but then you have teams like LSU and USC who do not, yet have good teams.

I am all for spending money if needed, but if SOS believes he has plenty to spend, then it puzzles me why fans would worry about this.

As others have stated, we mainly recruit SC, NC, GA and FL, with a little bit up the east coast. Most of those locations are easily accessible by car. Another thing that keeps our costs down is that we do not bring in a lot of official visitors. Rarely do we come close to maxing out in that category. That saves a ton of money.

  • I think LSU is much like Texas A&M and a few others that have no need to go too far to get a lot of great talent.

Only our coaches know if they could use more money in the recruiting budget, I just think that our Athletic Dept. needs to examine any area in which USC is at the bottom of the rankings and decide if a few more resources could be well used.

I'd also be interested to know what our recruiting budget is vis-a-vis Clemson. If they are spending two or three times as much as USC then are all you guys who aren't worried going to rethink that?

Petrino is not a coach at a SEC school.

Your bias is so blatant. SOS is more thn interested in the recruiting budget. Get out of here with your BS.

Must be, because we are at the bottom of that list and still recruit well. Same with A&M.

absolutely not. I dont compare our program to Clemson, we dont want to go backwards. Clemson recruiting rankings make them look like an elite team, but have you seen them play? They are not that good, very overrated. I have no qualms with them spending more than us in recruiting.
