  • Remember this kid is just a junior. He has a whole summer to get bigger, stronger, faster. In the film he has good lateral speed. Sealed the corner really well on those highlight plays. Looks like he plays DE because he looks to be the best athlete on that team. He had some pancakes at FB too. I just love getting kids out of state. Keep them coming. I love reading about commitments in April.

Kinda reminds me of the Whatley kid who I was not overly impressed with from last year. Do not understand why we just don't go after HS LB's that actually play LB.

So your already calling him a criminal?

This guy could very well start as a true freshman, and break all the tackling records at USC.

I promise you, Lorenzo Ward knows what he is doing, you are just going to have to trust him. Everything has turned out ok up til now, right? On a side note, our coaches have no idea what they are 'rated' by recruiting sights. Only abo uses the ESPN150 as his big board.

The Lindsays, Captain Munnerlyn, and KO Simpson all turned out OK.

I believe a guy they call the Honey Badger was ranked about like this guy too.

He Was MVP of the Rivals camp, or whatever, so that shows you he is an athlete. Call Lorenzo if you really cannot stand it, tell him he's not a take.

All I know, is some people seem to be star gazing. If we had this film on the same guy, but he was rated a four star, everyone would be FIRED UP. Lorenzo can evaluate prospects better than any of us.

From the blurry film, this guy can really move for an LB, he plays running back and has a good burst.

He is also a very solid tackler. Fine by me. I will take LB's that can move like that every year.

Please.....you cannot tell anything about speed from film on a guy because you must take into consideration the level of competition he is playing against while on film. Film is sent into coaches from the high school or player with an explaination as to who they were playing and the number of college prospects on the competition. Then coaches decide if they want to see the prospect in person to make their own decision about a possible offer but it is never done based film. And don't give me the Ryan Brewer stuff about him sending in his film and being offered, Skip Holz viewed his film and traveled to Ohio to see him play in an All-Star game before offering. Film is good for techigue and power not speed. As JC stated he currently has a problem coming in to high and getting knocked backwards....that is a big concern to me but it can be corrected. It appears he as size and a good frame, pobably very strong kid for Ward to offer this early, clearly he sees something he thinks he can develop....as JC stated you can't sign all 4 stars and we have proven that more than anyone.....

  • The sad part is if the kid with the same exact video would have had 4 stars beside his name, everyone would be jumping for joy.

  • He was evaluated by our coaching staff and deemed good enough to give a scholarship. They have been in the business and have done a good job. The folks who assign the star ratings probably know less about evals. Welcome the young man who wants to be a Gamecock and says he will give 110%

I would be willing to bet a higher percentage of 5 stars are good players than that of scholarship players who graduate or go pro in BCS programs.

I agree, he reminds me of Melvin Ingram, who played running back in high school. He also reminds me of Lawrence Taylor. Go back and watch Lawrence Taylor's high school tapes and tell me they are not related. He will be very good. His bursts remind me of Derrick Thomas. If you look at his tackling, it reminds me of Ray Lewis.

we're south carolina, we're not landing too many 5 stars year in and year out. our best bet is with talent evaluations of 3 and 4 stars.

  • what his coach had to say .......

At 6-2-, 220-plus pounds, he's a heck of an athlete," Beal said. "He can run, flex he's strong as an ox. flex
I actually had to play him out of position this past season and he flourished at that. He plays good in space. Especially playing a linebacker going to the SEC, you have to be able to play in space. His open field tackling, his pursuit to the ball. He will run you down. He's a 4.5 kid. bow That comes naturally. His football IQ, his ability to read quickly and come on downhill and make the play, that's one of the biggest things that helped us out. He's an all-around player. When he hits you, you're going to get hit."stretcher

Like I said...film doesn't tell you how strong or fast a kid is until you see him live.....I trust WARD!

I'm aware of which team I pull for.

I was just talking about comparing the "evaluation" of coaches as a whole compared the staff of a network like 247.

So are you saying that the staff's are better than the coaches? I doubt that the coaches miss on many 5 stars either.

You're missing my point and changing yours.

You said the coaches are better at evals than the 247 staff.

The ratings guys say who is going to be good and who is going to be decent. The coaches wouldn't offer someone a scholarship unless they thought that player would be good.

More BCS scholarship players quit/get cut/transfer/etc than 5 stars that don't pan out. 247 evals vs coaching evals.

Aww, c'mon, davidson, you can do better. I thought for sure you could come up with a quote from coach richt about him. don't be shy.

He is from jawja, so I know your hurt that the dawgs missed on him. they'll get a suitable replacement.

Hey, oracle. I want you to tell me the exact time on this film that he gets knocked backward. And don't say that one play where he is playing offensive line. He is not going to be playing O-line for us

Watch the film, and tell me the time he gets knocked backward. I will be waiting for the minute and second......
