Gamecocks on the blitz (ESPNU)

  • Was watching a show called the blitz last night on ESPNU and they talked pretty high of our gamecocks. Kevin Carter was one of the hosts and they did a defensive end segment where he ranked the top 3 tandems in the country and had Clowney and Taylor ranked first followed by Mingo and Montgomery at LSU and Jenkins and Werner at FSU. They also did a segment where Carter ranked the chances of certain senerios happening from 1-10 and the first senerio was whether we can represent the east in the SEC championship. He gave it a 7 and said only due to our schedule vs Georgia's was the only reason he saw that would keep us out. He thought we were not only the most talented team in the east but also would have a good chance to win the championship if we where to get there. Great exposure for the program that I thought I would pass on.

  • Thanks for sharing.

I really don't get why some ppl on this board are whining about us getting no respect, IMO we've gotten great exposure and due praise nationally.

  • I agree. There aren't many publications out there that don't have us inside their top ten not to mention they also have Lattimore as the SEC's best chance at another heisman trophy winner. To say that the public perception of our program has completely changed is an understatement

Because they've always done it in the past, when we were mediocre. They can't get used to the fact that we're good now, and that the national experts recognize it.

  • I thought Kevin Carter was the anti-David Pollack in many respects... Gave our guys some great props and was very complimentary of us and Spurrier, probably because he played for the guy and knows he's a genius.

I also don't have time to teach you how to speak hobo.

Pollock cannot stand us, Spurrier, and rarely backs up another announcer giving us
    some credit....he's kinda' 'wired'....

  • I have no problem with media folks putting us below UGa. Most state that they're doing so due to schedule. I think it is a little ridicous to also put us behind Florida now as well, but writers have to generate a buzz and making controversial picks is one way to do that. So I get it, though I don't agree or like it much.

What really sets me off, though, is when our own fans (or anyone... even writers, for that matter) say that we don't DESERVE the respect. To say that we haven't done enough to earn some respect, particularly from members of our own fan base is ludicrous. If you don't have that much respect for this team, I really have no reason to have any respect for your opinion.

Wealth is the product of man's capacity to think. There are no evil thoughts except one: The refusal to think.

I don't watch much of the 'U', but when I did last year, Pollack could not say enough good things about Melvin and Taylor and Clowney. Does he bash us more often than not?

Yes. Primarily because we're now better than the puppies...he has to lift them up and a run us down. Here's a 2nd hand quote from last year:

Anyone else watch their show today?? Talking about Auburn(paraphrased) "2nd week in a row they had to rely on late game heroics. Going back to last year they won all these close games. Thats what great teams do, they find ways to win." Talking about SC(paraphrased) "they cant keep relying on special teams and defensive scores. Their offense looks really bad right now. They are way over-rated."

  • Kevin Carter also picked Taj Boyd to win the Heisman and Maxwell. I almost spit out my dinner...

He's been a lot more complimentary of us so far this year.
