McKinley committed to Lou Holtz' staff.

But he actually signed with Junior and developed under him.

I'm not sure why you hold this grudge against Junior? Did he do something to you?

Rice, Mckinley, Alshon. Three of the best WR to ever play here, and that position has consistently been a strength during the entire Spurrier era.

You literally contribute nothing to this board other than whining about certain players/coaches/administrators. Why do you pay 10 dollars to a month to whine to others. No one else is entertained or enlightened by your insight.

I'm sure you will play coy with your comeback. Can't wait until Ace Sanders has about 1000 receiving yards this year, maybe you will finally shut up.

Same reason I saw stiffs like Jauqe Vaughn get drafted instead of BJ because he was at Kansas. Who was a better bball player? Sucks to say but BJ would have been a lottery pick had he gone to UNC over USC.

They played two different positions. not a good point, at all.

I don't have a problem with Junior's coaching. He's a pretty good coach. He's not, in my opinion, a very good recruiter and he's not , in my opinion, a very good evaluator of talent. You'll also note that I didn't bring up the subject of Junior in the thread.

As for whether others find my posts entertaining or enlightening I couldn't care less.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

We're talking about basketball players transferring. When we start a discussion about signing unknown, under-recruited camp phenoms I'll let you know.

As big of a BJ fan as you will ever find. Great college player. Thought for sure he was savvy enough to play in the NBA.

That said, watched him play in the D League and he was not quick enough or a consistent enough outside shooter to play in the NBA at his height.

I don't discount he may have been drafter had he played for a powerhouse, but not sure. We receive a ton of exposure while he played. Even if drafted, not sure he would have made a team. I do agree on Vaughn. Another very good college player, but looked ether than he was because of all the stars he played with at KU.

  • Both of the Curry brothers went to the same high school as Gill. Duke knows what is going on there and I'm sure this is why they have contacted his camp. He seems like the kind of player Coach K likes to have. He wasn't as productive or as good as he could have been this year because Horn was a bad coach, we had a terrible offense and we played him at PF instead of his natural position of SF.

UNC is in desperate need of players in the next two years with their mass exodus this year.

If he doesn't want to play for Martin then just he isn't tough enough.

I'm pretty sure 2 of the worst seasons in our history back to back are to blame. Not the fans. I hope your rich daddy enjoys his 2.4 million. Didn't know kids your age had computers.

If I gave a hoot what people like you had to say I wouldn't have said what I said. I didn't like the last two seasons any more than anybody else, but there's a way to treat people decently and there are an awful lot of Gamecock fans who showed no class whatsoever in their comments about Horn and the players. I believe Gill, Harris, and Slawson wanting to transfer has a whole lot more to do with those so-called fans than any other factor. Fine if you disagree.

I haven't been around here long enough to know whether you were one of the bigmouth blowhards who undermined Horn and berated the players, but if I were a betting man I'd bet the rent money you were. Those people are like parents who don't know how to get along with their kids little league coaches and yell at the umpires. That's you all over, isn't it?

I guess I am saying our fans did not act any differently from any other fans, but we are at least partly to blame.

The truth hurts sometimes. We blame Horn. Which side do you think the players stand on? The players come to win games and play in front of raucous crowds. They want to be local heroes. Al, if you want to say the fans did not turn their back on the team, you are not being very realistic. There are a bunch of people that cheer for them from afar, but the players do not see that.

Fact is, they played in front of a bunch of K-Y and OSU fans, or either a bunch of empty seats. They listened to their coach get ripped, and they listened to everyone saying they( the players ) were not good enough.

The reason for all of that is they did not win games, but the result is what it is. The players see only what is in front of them.

I'll go one step further. Throughout the past long difficult season, these players practiced and played hard and kept their morale high all the way through to the last game, and they had to tolerate jeers from the fans about themselves and their coach. The people who behave in that fashion aren't fans at all. They are selfish, disloyal jerks and I am ashamed that they associate themselves with other people who really are Gamecock fans. The fact is, when a coach can take a team through a difficult season like we went through and keep the players on his side, that is great coaching. I know Horn did not do a great job on the bench this season, but I am proud that I supported him and the players all year long. Anyone who did not I could spit in his face.

Great Coach? lol Horn was a crap coach who has taken shots at out program on the way out. F him.

  • If the kids does not want to be here...I do not want them here. It does not matter the reason.

Even if every player on last years team transfers because Horn was fired...we will still be bettrer off without Horn in the long run. He was not going to get us to where we want to go..even if we gave him 20 years..so better to be done with him and let a coach with skills take the reigns.

There is not a player on our team that is so good we should fret about them transfering. Yes.....there are some players with some real potential...but if they do not have the heart and willingness to buy into the program and the school..they will never be anything more than mediocre. We can make do with some juco kids for a year or so and recruit Martin's players.

If a basketball player blames the fans for our lack of success on the basketball court then he, or they as the case may be, have too fragile a psyche to play major college basketball. Our team will profit from his, or their, departure.

I was saying the reason the fans turned their backs on them is because they didn't win games.

The truth is, fans ripped Horn at first, then went to ripping players. Even when the best we have right now are considering transferring some are ripping them. Fans cannot have it both ways. We cannot claim to be a 'home court advantage', and say that players and coaches should want to come play in front of the best fans in the world, and then take none of the blame when things go bad.

Players here our insults to them, and the coach they committed to. Anyone here who says they would not want to get out of this situation is not being realistic. If we want to take some credit, we have to take some blame. Some are blurring the line between Horn and the players that played for him. He is not here anymore, but some act like he lives on through the guys he recruited.

Reread your own post. Of course you're blaming the fans.

Those of you who espouse the "three monkeys" approach to fandom are quick to blame fans - or "fans" as you like to call them - for a team's failures. The "reality" is that a team which performs as poorly as our team performed this year aren't going to play in front of big crowds. That's not to say that fans turned their backs on the team. There are tens of thousands of fans who pull for our basketball team each time out who never attend a game.

Totally agree. If the players don't want to play then I am not going to waste my time watching them not want to play

  • I know I get ripped everytime I mention how these were high rated recruits when they signed. But they were. But they still had to be developed into SEC college level players. It would have been real interesting to see where this same team would be today had they had the benefit of a good coach/developer from the outset. I just hope they learned enough in 1-2 years so that Martin won't have to start from scratch to get them to that level. I don't blame some of the players if they are disillusioned by the lack of success and poor fan support but they should give Martin a chance to change it all.

Book, thanks for taking the time to research and remind us where these guys were rated out of high school.

As you've proven by taking the time to look at where our players were ranked out of high school versus Kansas State's, the problem with the Horn era was coaching not recruiting.

I hope the whole roster transfers. The sooner we get the stink of Darrin Horn off our program altogether, the better.

I don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
Lots of coaches at lots of different places have taken over losing teams and went on to win with them.
Matt Doherty was pretty bad at a place almost impossible to lose at, UNC, and Roy Williams was probably pretty glad he didn't run off Sean May and the others because they had the stink of losing on them.
Brad Scott is as big a loser as we've ever had and I'm glad Holtz didn't see fit to run Phil Petty and others off.
If Anthony Gill wants to leave, so long to him.
But I hope Martin coaches up the daylights out of guys who are staying like Leonard and Williams.

You are like a brick wall sometimes, but that's ok.

I think its pretty obvious Horn is to blame for the troubles we have had. That said, you have to understand what the players are feeling. Horn failed. DId we do anything to give the team any positive emotions during home games? No, but I doubt any fans would have. I do shoulder some of the blame. I could have gone to some of the games.

I do not think the players who are thinking about transferring are somehow lazy or quitters, they are simply human. They want out of what they, rightfully so, think of as a bad situation. I don't blame them for that. That said, I hope like hell they stay, and I hope we express out desire for them to stay.

  • Good lord I NEVER agree with BigAssAl but you made me do it today.

You do realized that these young men are given a total free ride to a college education, right. Many of us played a sport in college and if you ask everyone of us that did we will tell you sir that while having a crowd watch us was great, we would have played the game regardless if no one showedup. We represented our school and our team mates first.

No crowd shows up to cheer us on when we had to lift weights 4 days a week and run the other 3 days but that didn't stop us from doing it. No crowd showed up, in my case, during the heat of a southern summer when we ran play after play without a single coach around for hours. No crowd showed up at 7 am for 2 a days.

Players don't play for the crowd, they play because they love the game. And many of us wish we could go back in time to just play it one more time in an empty stadium or not.

Finally could you do me a favor.....I like Connor Shaw as much as the next guy but that photo of yours is very gay looking....please replace it with an action shot or something...........

Yep, and they can get a free ride to a place where they can start all over, and feel appreciated, if that is what they wish. You are not being honest with yourself if you say they would not rather play in a full arena, with a home court advantage, and be local heroes.
