Golf in Columbia

  • The girlfriends parents are coming in town this weekend and want to play. I typically play Charwood just because its cheap but I dont really want to take them there. I like Oak Hills and Cobblestone but with it being Masters week their prices are up there (as are almost everywhere else.) Please put in any recent reviews you guys have from some of the less expensive courses in the area - Northwoods, LinRick, Hidden Valley, Indian River, etc. I havent played these and others in a while and were wondering what they look like. TIA.

  • Have a couple of friends that played Indian River yesterday. Said it was a great time and a lot better than Charwood

  • Haven't played Indian River in about a year and the last time I did it was in pretty good shape with the exception of one green. Pretty property.

  • Linrick is in the best shape of all the "lower tier" courses and definitely the cheapest. Only bad thing is the people that play there obviously don't play golf much and won't let you play through, etc.

Is there a worse hole in golf than number 9 at Crickentree?

There are two holes I hate at LinRick -- No. 8 and No. 13. I can't make better than double on either. It's a mental block.

Hmmm...17 at linrick is a dumb hole. 5 at northwoods. 12 at Windermere.

  • You know what? You're right. No 17 at LinRick is a dumb hole ... I don't mind the hole at Northwoods. I never birdie, but I rarely double. I've had good fortune on that hole a lot getting good bounces.

  • I played Northwoods this morning. Not to bad. A few fairways are a little stiff, but overall I'm good shape. And no 13 kills me. Par 5 with a stone wall left of the green. I always go up against the wall and try to kill myself getting over it lol.

I love that hole, just never score it well. Love No. 14 and trying to hit the green. Somehow I always miss the water (just jinxed myself) and make at least birdie.

  • what is the hole at linrick - par 5 doglegs one way then back and up a hill, then across water to a green....16 or so? tough hole. that straight up hill short par 3 is also thats like 80 yards lol. hard to keep it that short for me...think that is 17.

that long par 5 though is tough.

Also tough is that across the water 190-yard par 3 at Oak Hills...but long par 3 ares my downfall. I don't have a long iron I can hit over 175 and I hit soft 5-woods but half the time completely fly that green trying that...put it on that next tee box behind that green a couple times lol.

the back nine par 5 a wildewood that is uphill for like 530 yards is a huge PTA also.

#4 at Spring Valley takes that honor.

    WoodrowST13733

  • Love SV but #4 is crazy. Either hit driver over trees 15 ft to your left and hope it gets up or hit hybrid to middle of fairway and have 200-225 yrds in.

Played them -1 today. That being said, Charwood is an abomination of a golf course and should be wiped off the face of the earth.
