  • Went to check and see what this would cost Vilma...On 4/20/2012: Signed a two-year, $9.3 million contract. The deal included a $1 million signing bonus. Annual $100,000 offseason workout bonuses are available in each year. 2012: $1.6 million (+ $600,000 roster bonus),

So, he took $1 million already I guess, unless the Saints try to get that back, AND it cost him, potentially, $2.2 million? WOW. And he's already over 30 so he loses a year that he can never get back and he doesn't have many left.

  • Players union will appeal and get it reduced. Goodell just needs to look tough up front.

  • The Saints really got the hammer. Goodell wanted to send a message which he did. IMO the penalties were a little steep all around

I disagree that they were steep. I have never supported this kind of barbaric behavior of targeting opposing players and inflicting injuries. I dont care what the "culture" is it is wrong and against the rules. Im glad Goodell stands up for the rules and against this bullsh!t of it being accepted culture.

As for Darren Woodson's comments, why does he care about Vilma's careers, and not the careers of players who got injured b/c of this crap? Asinine comments IMO.Thats like saying that the murderer needs to make money to support his family, and the victims family needs to suck it up. A complete fool. I dont care what his credentials are.

No way, they have specific evidence of him offering 10k to take out Favre and Warner. The players Union is in a catch-22. They also have to work to protect themselves from injury, and this is in direct opposition to that.

They got'em for endangering players safety over a 3 yr period. There is no way they get it reduced.

  • I don't understand the NFLPA stance on this. How can they help repeal these fines. Don't they represent the targeted players also? If I was Gore, Alex Smith id be pissed

Perhaps, but there is lots of precedent in their favor that playing in the NFL is not a right. For example, the 3 year out of HS eligibility rule.

Schefter is reporting that a source said get ready for multiple legal battles on all fronts. He is saying they don't have much evidence on the players.

That is exactly what I think. They have a bigger responsibility for player safety.

So what? They don't have a right to play in the NFL. There is no right to due process. Look, the only litigation that the NFL is sweating at all is the concussion class action.

Time will tell when if/when it goes to court.

  • I wonder why Goodell didn't come down hard like this on the Patriots. Taking away their 20 something pick and leaving them with the #8 pick(may have been higher) is not what you would consider harsh punishment. You don't think it had something to do with the Pats owner being responsible for the position that Goodell hold today? Nahhh. Not a fan of the saints and I don't think the punishment is to harsh but damn the patriots got off easy.
