Got my seats taken by USC!!!!

  • Times are a little hard this year and I dropped my giving level back to a half scholarship this year. I have done this several times in the past, but I have given between a half scholarship and silver spur for 32 years. I called and they have taken my seats. I have purchased all 4 seats for 32 years straight and now I've been bumped. They will not tell me where my new seats will be until I send them the money. I'm a little pissed off! I know we need to make money, but we should be careful what we build. By my calculations that's about $40,000.00 just in scholarships, not including tickets, food and beverage, etc...

  • I feel for you bud. In one sense, rules are rules, but in the other sense, you always want to honor loyalty. Did you contact them about the seats before you dropped a level?

You knew what the rules were. They're the same for everyone.

Sorry bud but that's a B.S. answer. How long have you been giving and is it at a silver spur level? Matt call the guy in charge immediately. I got screwed last year and did not call. The lady I spoke to high up said if I woe have called she could have helped. Do it now! Loyalty still has some sense of respect

Matt, Before dropping your giving level you should have contacted them. Most likely they would have given you a one year defferal allowing you to drop down a level so long as you go back up the following.

    BS yourself.

This is my 36th consecutive year in the Gamecock Club. I give at the Half Scholarship level. Were I to drop back to Roundhouse, I would expect to lose my seats.

  • I called back in December and kept getting the run around about this issue. Mine were passed down from my Grandfather and I have had help the past several years with family to help pay for the membership and tickets. We are Silver Spur and have 6 tickets. I called and asked if there was anyway that I could give up 4 of my section 3 tickets but keep two tickets for my parents so they would not have to go all the way to the upper deck. I did not care about the tickets that I would sit in because I am capable of going to those seats but my parents are not. I was told that they would ask for a special request and the Gamecock Club Director would get back with me. I called him about three times and each time I had to re-explain what my request was. He then told me that the Board of Directors would not allow it.

I understand their situation because rules are rules. I also know that if we were 5-7 they would allow me to keep those seats. But since our record has improved, they need those seats to give to new donors who are paying $10,000 or more.

I understand your situation and hate it just as much as you do. I was able to find a few people who would help me out this year but I am not sure I will be able to afford it next year. At least not Silver Spur.

Well the half scholly is I believe 25 percent of silver spur. So actually it's not even close if you consider 35 years total giving. The human factor after 35 years should be worth something. I'm not talking roundhouse money!!! I'm talking silver spur money for 35 years.

    Let's see. 35 x 3k= 105k 35 x. $750= 26,500

Which do you believe deserves more loyalty

So everyone else should get a discount as well then right? Why not throw in free cokes and popcorn? He probably bout hundreds of those in the past.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the Silver Spur level has been in existence that long.

But that's beside the point. The folks who choose to give the big bucks are amply rewarded for their generosity in the form of priority and other perks. But when it comes to rules, they should be treated equally with everyone else.

Nonsense, the other people in that section pay the same amount. So does the person who will sit there next year. The only way he built loyalty is if he was paying more than everyone else. Otherwise that was what it costs to sit there.

No one took the seats away, he refused to pay for them.

Look after 35 years of giving and at a high level, not a minimum level, I just think people deserve a hiccup or two based on circumstances. Granted 3-5 years of significantly less giving makes sense, but 1-2 years at one less giving level after 35 years I think is extreme and not alumni / fan friendly. If you think otherwise fine. I disagree. Hope you give around 105k over 35 years to the university not counting actual ticket price and concessions

It is a business; they could care less. Don't believe it is any different at any other major D1 school.

Well I have given silver spur for 15 years and get no perks other than the opportunity to buy Tix at my giving level. And would hope after 35 years that if I had a hiccup in regards to finances for a year that they would not demote me and take my tix after all those years. But that's me. I feel bad for the guy and hope he gets his tix back for the amount of money he has given our university for 35 years through the success and failures

I'm not really trying to get in your business but just trying to give you some friendly advice. I wouldn't be announcing on a public forum that your tickets were passed down from a family member* because technically that's not allowed. I personally don't care and wouldn't rat you out but there are a lot of people that would do that to try to get your seats.
