HS coaches and recruiting

  • IMO, I think its not good to have these hs coaches getting so involved in the media aspect of recruiting. This BC thing with Clowney is outta control. I cringe when reading PK's reports and BC tells what his "gut" is concerning the situation. Human nature tells me that most HS coaches like their names being mentioned and once they say "I think my player x is leaning to..." then they want to appear to have been right in the end. Maybe the player wants to use the coach as a buffer or in some other way to pass along info but I would not want them telling PK or anybody something that I did not want to tell them myself.

  • it is the media that has made this problem. did you see the article the other day that said clowney's phone bill was between $400 and $500 per month with all the calls and text that he has made and received. carrol would not be doing interviews if no one called him. and one other thing about the carroll bashing, i heard him on korn's show the other night. he said since he has been coaching at northwestern and south point that he has sent 8 people to play for usc and that is not counting charles holmes and clowney. he must not hate usc too much

  • Last time I checked, 8 players who played for him chose to attend USC. I am not aware of any that he sent our way. In fact, we had to work hard to get them in spite of him.

wonder why he would not have just switched over to one of the unlimited plans for under 100?

I agree to a point. in fact, I guess I'm being more critical of PK making him his primary source. However, I still think it would be best if ALL hs coaches would go with this answer, "ask the player." In this situation it puts Carroll on the spot and only adds pressure to Clowney. And again, maybe in this situation they are wanting Carroll to speak for them but I don't think its good.

All deserve blame for where we are.

But the cow is way, way out of the barn.

  • He certainly hasn't been sending them to Clemson. The last hs kid to sign out of rock hill with Clemson was 1990 what does that tell you

  • A high school coaches’ job is to coach the game, mentor, and get their players noticed, i.e. sending videos to colleges, making phone calls etc... Their only agenda should be the player's well-being not what school they should attend.

So true...Its a circus these days with many of these players and I see no end in sight.......Simply too much time for the media to mettle and then dramatize the situation so the fanbase will stay tuned and beg for more...Also, a golden opportunity for some HS coaches looking for their name in the news...

I wish we could go back about 15 years ago when the internet was in its infancy and start all over.

They have Jonathan Meeks although he came from prep school. But, he is originally from Rock Hill I believe. When was the last time we got a player from Daniel, or Dorman, or Camden? They have been dominating the Pee Dee area the last few years in recruiting the state too. Shon Carson stopped that trend this year.
