Harris Pastides said Texas A&M is USC's new West opponent

In full disclosure, I did not hear the comments but according to various media, USC president Harris Pastides announced on 107.5 FM this afternoon that Texas A&M will be South Carolina's new permanent opponent in place of Arkansas. I'll see if we can get confirmation on that from a USC athletics official, but I don't think there's any reason to doubt his comments.

I like the idea of playing in Texas every year and we need to bring in a couple of Texas recruits every year. It will not be easy because AM will start getting the better players in Texas because they will want to play in SEC instead of Big 12 or wherever Texas ends up.

3 hour, 10 minute drive for me. I like it.
Plus now I get to make all of the A&M fans around here angry when I'm wearing my Gamecock gear!

Glad to see Arkansas go, but I'm not sure getting A&M will make life any easier. Sumlin plus the bump in recruiting will make them a tough matchup. I guess it couldn't get much worse than our Ark record though

I for one would rather have kept ARKY because we need to prove ourselves against them, getting A&M doesn't make it any easier, only gives the trip out WEST to look forward too at the moment!

Since the SEC apparently decided to keep the 8 game schedule, at least for now, that means we will play the other 6 teams in 2 of every 12 years.

Distances:
Columbia to Fayetteville 915 mi
Columbia to College Station 1060
so, an additional 145 miles if you drive. But flying in, I think would be more convenient. Lots of nonstops to Houston.
