How do you think all the success Tanner is having will

  • impact his desire to be an AD whenever that position is open again.

I do not think he will ever leave USC for any position, so there might be 1 maybe 2 opportunities at USC to ever become that AD that he has expressed interest in in the past. I like Hyman, and hope he stays a long time. I like Tanner as Head Coach, and I would not want to mess with what we have going on, but part of me would think he would be great as an AD.

    What say you?

Any insiders hear Tanner comment in the past yr or so?

  • Imo he'll be Hymans replacement when the time comes.

  • While I would support anything Tanner wanted to do for the University, I do wonder what qualifies him for the AD role? He may be outstanding. No one can question his leadership and coaching credentials. I just see it as two completely different animals. However, after you win the way he has and has provided me some of the greatest memories as a fan I will ever have, let him do what he wants.

  • There is one recent example of a famous coach becomining an ad and that's Barry Alvarez from Wisconsin. And I think he has done a pretty good job there so far.

  • Skip Bertman, Tom Osborne, etc. Ray was an assistant AD when he was at NC State. Everybody says it is his ultimate goal to be an AD so let the man do it. Heck I think he should be Governor too. Ray Tanner is a smart guy and I have no doubt that he would be a home run AD at Carolina even if he doesn't have years of experience.

My feelings exactly. But I do hope everybody stays where they are for quite a few more years, because it's working.

    Exactly.

Honestly being an AD isn't exactly rocket science. You have to be able to talk to the community and other coaches, balance a budget, and have a vision for where the department is going. I think RT would do all three adaquately.

  • He runs a very successful, and while it may or may not be profitable, a very financially lean program. The only difference I see in the two positions is the amount of money involved. I believe he would make an excellent AD.
