I'm not willing to compromise even 10% of the rest of our athletic programs (essentially, football and basketball) to make our tremendously successful baseball coach happy. We can give Tanner another raise, but all the success in the world as a coach shouldn't guarantee you the athletic director position. It takes two different sets of qualifications to be the best at each. Tanner may be the very rare guy who has both sets of qualifications, but we should talk to a few serious, qualified candidates before we make a final decision.
