I dont think its Hyman being on the cheap on these Assistants

  • IMO...this Botkin thing is a Ward hire..just hooking up his out of work friend..has nothing to do with money..just Ward being insecure. Botkin has never coached LB's..only DE's before he was let go by Arky. Same thing with the RB coach search...why are we not ending up with a top notch guy. We really need Hyman and Pastide to step in on this one...nobody can explain to me the logic in these hirings --especially Botkin

    Do you happen to know any of the people you are talking about? If not, how can you judge insecurity or other aspects of their personalities?

    I agree on the ward insecurity thing, but that is not the job of Hyamn or Pastides it is Spurrier's job to tell Ward he is going to go get a top knotch guy. If Ward can't handle that, then maybe he's not ready to be a DC in the SEC.

    I think many of you are being unreasonable with Ward's wanting to hire his guy. Any of us would want the same thing. If you were a CEO of a company it would be hard to want to hire a former CEO of that same company you work for as a VP under you...I coach football, and it works a lot better when you surround yourself with guys you trust and are all on the same page. It's not a knock on Nix, I think it would be great, but Ward was given the job and he should be given the opportunity to hire guys on his side of the ball that he thinks would keep Carolina winning. We should give him a chance. I coach high school football and have coached QB's, RB's, WR's, OLB's, and DB's. If you know football, you know football. I played fullback in high school but coached the other positions just fine.

    Let these coaches do their jobs and hire who they think is best for the position. My question to all of the nay-saying message board philosophers is why don't any of you believe that the coaches are interviewing people whom they see best fit for a particular coaching position. True, there may not be a deep pool of prospective coaches, or possibly some of our coaches don't have the "network" that some other programs do, but why don't any of you trust them to do their jobs? I think that Spurrier has proven that he has is capable of assembling a sound staff, and I don't believe he would allow a hire that wouldn't benefit the legacy of this program.

    This hiring process has nothing to do with Hyman or Pastides, nor should it. The University President hires an AD, the AD hires a Head Coach within the athletic program, the Head Coach hires other coaches. I'm not completely sold that you understand how this chain of command works.

  • If Botkin is a top-notch recruiter and Robinson, the special teams/LB coach from UNC, is a top-notch X's and O's guy, then I think this could turn out well.

    I would've liked to see us get Galloway and Thompson from Tennessee, but you can't win em all.
