I look forward to not hating Clemson

  • Sounds crazy, but imagine a day in the not so distant future (or present) where we have dominated them in all of the major sports for so long, their program is mired in the dregs of the ACC or better yet in the travel dominated Big 12 where there are no natural opponents, high school recruits don't regard them as a legitimate program and the consequence of all of this is that we just don't really care about them any more. Imagine never seeing an anti-Clemson post on this board...I will miss it but it will feel good.

  • Personally, I hope that never happens. I'd like to see Clemson get better and better. I want them at their best, and I want to see us beat them at their best. I want the nation to recognize that THIS is the best rivalry in the country.

It's much better to have an enemy you respect than one you pity IMO.

Screw that! I hope Clemson loses every game in every sport!

  • There is something to this and I've even discussed it with a few Clemson fans before. Many of them do not hate South Carolina like we hate Clemson. I chalked that up to our football series record over the last 30 years. I grew up during this time and if I needed a new reason to hate Clemson sadly I generally only needed to wait until November when they'd beat us again. Our record against them from 1980-2005 was atrocious. I've always found that my hatred of them was always more vicious in years after we lost than in years after we won. If you start beating them all the time you have more of the lesser years and kids growing up during that era will feel differently. Clem kids, if they survive past the formative years given their poor breeding genes and tendency to be eaten by house pets, will hate Carolina much more than their parents if this continues. Just how it is. Time for the shoe to be on the other foot.

  • I started to feel sorry for their players -- Schaeffer, Pohl, and the pitcher Meyers -- during the post-game press conference. Those guys look tremendously humbled. They also didn't seem too upset, as if losing this regional was expected.

I like pitying them. Feels right.

I don't feel sorry for them. They chose to go to Clemson. They get what is coming to them!

You must be relatively young. No way in hell I could ever stop hating Clemson!

  • you don't understand, the opposite of love is not hate, it is apathy. Thats what I am dreaming for. I graduated over 30 years ago, third generation grad, live in the upstate. I have many reasons to dislike orange.

Right! And never scores again! Even in basketball.

  • The more we beat them, the more my desire to continue to beat them goes up. The more I desire to continue to beat them, the more and more I hate them.

  • I enjoy hating them almost as much as I love Carolina. I will never stop hating them...ever. I was taught to hate them growing up, their fans and coaches just reinforced it over the years. There is no better feeling than the one I get when I watch Carolina win at anything and Clemson lose at anything.
