I really like Bruce Ellington but

  • There aren't many 5'9" or 5'10" receivers so its not a slam dunk that he makes it to the NFL. You can make more money playing basketball overseas than you can in arena football, Canadian football, or any level of football that's not the NFL.

Where do you think he will make a career, honestly? Bball or football?

    Basketball overseas

I am sure Bruce is a great person but the answer is obvious that he does not have a NBA or NFL career ahead of him. He might be able to play BB overseas or Football in arena league.

He should just have fun and play both sports as long as he can and wants to.

    This.

We also shouldn't overlook the fact that Bruce isn't given any preferential treatment from either Coach Spurrier or Coach Horn. Obviously his grades are still fine too.

He's only halfway through his 2nd basketball season and just completed his 1st season on the gridiron. I look forward to watching him improve in both sports and help both teams achieve success.

but there are a lot of 5'10 corner backs in the NFL and Bruce has the skill set to be one.

Has he ever been open to play that position though. That's a completely different argument, and one where you'd have to see him play the position first. Especially at this level.

He did in HS and his coach, Jerry Brown has said from day one that Bruce was an NFL caliber CB.

I'm not sure whether he wants to play defense or not? He would have to learn the position and outperform our returnees. That could be asking too much of Bruce.

Who decides what position Bruce plays in football? I honestly don't know.

So did Martay Mattox's coach. Transitioning it to the D1 level, let alone SEC level or NFL is another thing. Lots of players play multiple positions in high school. And he was a gifted HS player.

I'm not going to see he has a future in pro football at corner, until I see him play the position. Based on the info at hand his best opportunity as a pro is overseas in basketball.

I'm assuming Ellington. If he said I want to try CB they would let him. Especially with all the experimenting they like to do.

  • I have always thought Bruce has the tools to be a great corner- lateral quickness, great acceleration, and he gets to top end quickly. That's critical for great CBs.

It is a refined skill set for sure, but I think he could be a beast if that is what he and THE STAFF wanted him to do.

Great cover guys are always in short supply in the draft, and I believe he could possibly make it if he made the transition soon to give him time to grow into the position. But, what do I know?

SOS and company may have different ideas!

I will be happy to see him anywhere on the field in pads!

Not only that, Lakeem Jackson should play football only.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

The basketball team is playing hard and I proud of em but are they really going anywhere ?

The football team however is coming off an 11 win season

    Play football!!!!!

    Agreed. FB only!

    Groovy

  • From what I know of the situation he gave it a lot of thought and had the blessings of both coaches
before deciding to play both. He works very hard at both and seems to be doing pretty well at both.

In retrospect, I guess he should have known to check with the keyboard experts before making such a decision.
Don't know what he was thinking.

Thats your opinion, which you are entitled to, but don't compare Bruce to Martay Mattox. that is an apples and oranges comparison.

I was simply stating what his HS coach said, and that is someone with a much better knowledge of Bruce's football abilities than you or I.

CF, not really arguing, but I don't see how it is apples to oranges. Bot kids hs coaches, who know more about each kid, said they each had NFL potential as a DB.

I didn't compare them. I used the exact same argument you used. The reality as it stands today neither guy is on the NFL radar as a CB despite the opinions of their coaches.

  • WHAT??? His HS Coach thinks his is NFL material...got me sold...WOW. I am a bit confused...other than one catch for a long TD and a few KO returns, what has he done...and you folks think you can see NFL greatness in him...nonofingergun
