I think Dawn Staley would be a great choice...

  • She won a gold medal, didn't she? Why not?

Geno Auriemma has no interest in coaching at 2016 Olympics - ESPN

Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma said he has no interest in returning as head coach of the U.S. national team for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

  • absolutely. She would be a FAR superior ambassador for the US than Geno. Geno is so cocky. He needs to coach men's basketball, this is why: there are a LOT of women that would love to be a head coach that could never be a coach on a men's team. Geno could get a job coaching men in a heartbeat.

  • Geno is a grade A prick and wins only because he has the best players. He could not coach a men's team because there is less of a talent gap there...

Agreed. He is an arrogant prick. He's a prick taking a spot of a deserving female. He is a great recruiter, or he somehow gets great players there, but that is it. He has FAR superior players to the second best team every year. He still lost to ND this year, and UCONN had better talent. I laughed, and laughed. I don't consider him a good game day coach, though that is probably just my hatred towards him.

  • I'm not going to say he's a sub-par game coach because his record speaks for itself. However, there's no denying that he rewrote the book on being a prick. I disagree that he is taking a position away from a deserving female coach though. The reason women don't usually coach men is due to stature, power, and presence rather than knowledge. There are plenty of women who could take 5 good college players and beat 90% of the male coached teams. However, I don't think she'd be able to convince those 5 players to come play for her and she'd probably have a tough time exerting power over them if they didn't want to do it her way. The same doesn't normally apply to men coaching women.

    Career Record
    829-124

18 Big East Reg Season Champ
    19 Big East Tourney Champ
Since 93 they have either won Reg season champ or Tourney champ and and 14 times they won both.

Won 7 NC, one behind Summit
In 2003 they won a record 70 games in a row.
In 2010 they broke that record and won 90 in a row.

    He's fastest to 500 wins
    Fastest 600
    Tied for fastest 700
    Fastest to 800.

Went to 5 consecutive final 4s.

Will agree he comes off as a prick. To say he can't coach is maybe the most ridiculous statement I've ever read in my life. He has the highest winning % of active coaches and he's been coaching for almost 30 yrs.
