If Clemtech wanted to come to the SEC and Nikki Haley

  • carolinainsider said...

She's a one term politician. I have never voted against a republican but I will not be voting for her.

Exactly! I had an extremely hard time voting for that b!%@# last time, but rest assured, even though I'm a dyed in the wool Republican, she will NEVER get my vote again! She has Sarah Palin to thank for helping her to become the "Popular" Republican candidate last time. She has as much business being Governor of South Carolina as my Cat does.

    Sad but true.

Lee Atwater, the S.C. bred political strategist who managed George Bush Sr's presidential campaign in 1988, used to say, "You can't beat somebody with nobody.'

No Democrat, no matter how qualified, is going to win a governor's race in this state in the forseeable future, unless there's a David Beasley-like scenario where a Repubican incumbent alienates his base -- and the Democrat is able to take advantage of a wedge issue like a lottery.

That means that Nikki Haley's only vulnerability would be in a Republican primary. And the last poll I saw had her with a better than 50% approval rating among Republican voters.

How in heck does she have that kind of support? Do people not listen to her spew nonsense?

Here is last month's Winthrop poll.

The highly respected Winthrop Poll is widely considered to be the national authority for accurate public opinion for states across the South and general southern political opinion.

I don't believe that unwritten agreement crap. If Mike Slive WANTED Clem Tech, USC wouldn't block it. But he doesn't want or need them.

this. Slive will get who he wants. if its clemson we will go along. if its not clemson then our governor wont be able to change that. we would give public support and then the sec still wouldnt invite them. it wont be clemson unless we just cant add another state and are desperate to get to 16.

There was a lot of political back stabbing in the state of Virginia when it came time for UVA to help Va. tech get into the ACC. That was the only reason why I asked the question.....Everyone else got off on a tangent about Nikki....I must say that I am sitting here LMAO at how ADD some of you are when it comes to answering questions....

Did Virginia and VT play each other much before Tech joined the ACC? That might have been a difference. We play the kitty kats already so that might not be a reason to get involved. Plus, I would imagine the SEC has more power to tell us to GTFO. Our lone vote will not mean much, and who knows they could threaten to drop us.

  • The fact that a Clemson Alum and possible Tater Club Donator can sit on our BOT and control others members of our BOT should be changed. I understand why the legislature/governor wants to because we are getting state funds and they want a voice on how it's used and to keep an eye on it. But there should be a better way. Especially when that POS came to Billy B decked out in all Orange sitting in the governors box. Not to mention the former Rep. Who went on his rant about Carolina publicly and I believe she nominated him for a state post. Might need help confirming that last point.

As far as UVA/Va. tech. Their rivalry is not even close to ours with Clemson. I grew up in Va. And their rivalry always goes back to UVA's supposed academic superiority. Those elitists always fall back on that

Worst mistake I ever made voting for that POS! Won't happen again! She will not get re-elected.

First time I've ever voted Democrat. Feel justified in having done so.

also wanted USC to support this move, what type of political games could she play with us to make USC help clemtech. After reading the other report about how political Va Tech and NC State moves could get, this got me to wondering what kind of crap Nikki could pull or any other political figures in south Carolina.....

I understand what you're saying but I doubt that Haley has the juice to force USC officials to support Clemson's move to the SEC. On the other hand, I can definitely see Harvey Peeler and other Clemson-leaning legislators trying to pressure USC officials into supporting Clemson's move to the SEC.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

  • If romney wins, she will be gone. Most likely a cabinet position but she wants out of sc bc she knows she is toast in two years

General "messing" with USC, replacing Darla Moore on BOT, openly supporting one school over the other, hanging orange curtains in the press box at Williams Brice, writing a book instead of leading her state.

So you voted for Obama's SC Campaign manager instead of Haley? Do you realize that Sheheen would not have supported SC's lawsuit against Obamacare? Do you realize that Sheheen would be supporting NLRB's lawsuit against Boeing? Do you realize that Sheheen would never support an initiative for Voter ID? Unless you're a liberal in the first place - in which case I know you're not too bright - you're a shining example of why we used to have literacy requirements for voting and still should.

And for the rest of you, even orange curtains in Williams Brice are not as important as those other issues which Haley supported. I can only hope that you don't show up to vote this November 7.

I hate to admit but I dont check anyone off (you) but this thread is loaded with spewed nonsense. To begin with it's trouble looking for a place to happen and I havent a clue what she has done so wrong. Sometimes the best thing to do in our form of government is nothing. Is she not greasing enough palms or what?
I dont agree with everything she has or hasnt done but that doesnt make her a bad governor. Frankly we have had two politicians worth anything in the last 20 years...Carrol Campbell and Jim (now Jim says he's leaving and I hope not)
All Clemson things are not bad and all USC things are not good!!!!

  • no way USC goes along with Clemson to SEC. They bring nothing to the league. We already bring the small SC market. CU adds nothing. They are not a powerhouse football team. WVA proved that and then some. They bring no instant basketball credibility. Mizzou and TAMU both bring a lot more to the conference that the Clemmers.

The SEC would give them money, a powerful recruiting bump and a terrific home schedule each year. I placve of Duke, Coastal Carolina, Wofford, Maryland, NC State, etc. etc., they'd be facing 5 SEC East + 3 SEC West opponents each yr. That's something to look forward to mas a fan. Currently they only have 1 or 2 homes games a yr. a serious fan would consider toss ups.

Those are th sae reasons FSU nor Miami will join or GT for that matter. Fla. & UGA will make it impossible. AND they should. The teams add nothing.

If the SEC were to expoand again, by 2 or 4 teams here's who makes sense.
    If 2, Oklahoma, Texas.
If 4, Olahoma & Oklahoma St + Texas & UNC.

    WNCCock151101

  • The ACC had zero to lose by bringing FSU, MIA & VT in. None had threatening basketball programs AND all had better football programs than the best ACC school. The ACC hoped to get a positive bump from them in FB while not being threatened when it comes to B. Hasn't worked out that way for the ACC. Those 3 FB programs have fallen back to the pack. The hoped for bump in football cred has not happened.

    WNCCock151101

  • All you guys that just vote party instead of actually learning about the individual candidates are a huge part of the problem. I'm not going to mince words -- if you voted for Haley, you are an IDIOT. Her incompetency was clearly apparent long before she took office. South Carolina is held back from becoming more regionally and nationally relevant largely because of the horrific politicians that continue to be elected. Fresh off Sanford's glorious run, I might've thought some of you guys would say it's time to quit electing the trash the GOP nominates to lead the state. If Haley's tenure actually gets a large number of people to wake up and look at the real facts and figures (and, hell, just general intelligence), maybe it will end up being a positive development in the long run.

Hopefully we will have a republican beat her in the primary, but if not I will do everything I can to unseat her and that does include voting against her on Nov. 7.

    jimcmarshall

  • Her approval rate is 34% in this state. A good Democrat COULD beat her. It would have to be someone better than Jim Hodges but it could and will happen. I have talked to so many Republicans who cannot stand her. Darla Moore could beat her tomorrow if she could create jobs in this state and not play political cronyism.
