If I'm planning to go to LSU in October...

  • Any suggestions on making plans for the trip? Fly or drive (from Greenville area)? Where should I look to stay? Are there agencies out there with package deals for a trip like this?

Thanks for your help in advance

  • We are in the same boat.....

Never been to BR for a game. Would appreciate any comments from the board.

    Cheers.

  • Fly to New Orleans - Stay in New Orleans (plenty of places) - drive over early the day of the game to BR and enjoy. We are making the trip too and it is one of the best places to see a game in college football. Pack your thickest skin, but have fun.

  • Hows the drive? 16 hrs or so id figure.

  • Bring a poncho even if it's not raining and especially at night. Urine filled bottles will be thrown. If we win take off your shirt/hat anything garnet on the way out or there is a30% chance you will be assaulted.
Have a great time but LSU fans are at he bottom of both the socioeconomic and human evolutionary scales.

Been to LSU 1/2 a dozen times and never seen any of this. LSU fans are just like everybody else.

I'd definitely fly into New Orleans. Go a night or two early if you can and enjoy the city. The Harrah's is fun and of course there are lots of great bars/restaurants. It's only about an hour drive from NO to Baton Rouge so you could drive up the night before the game or that morning.

  • I believe containers or urine being tossed is a felony.......do they really do that and get away with it?

We are driving and will make a nice trip out of it. Staying in NOLA. Thinking about renting a car for the day--don't want my vehicle vandalized, etc. Thoughts?

  • Have been every time we have played at LSU. We are going this year and always go 1-2 days early. As stated above, fly to New Orleans, stay there and drive over the day of the game. Once you get over the fact that New Orleans is dirty, it is awesome. Food is unreal, drinks are aplenty and can even go gambling. Nuff said.

LSU fans are intense. Have had a couple run ins with some mnor smack talk but nothing too bad. Have heard about the urine bottles but havent seen it. Be a classy fan and should be no problem.

Not that I am a band guy, but go down near Mike the Tiger's den and watch the LSU band come in. It's really cool and I think they do the best rendition of Tiger Rag.

On a final note, Death Valley (the real one) is by far and away the loudest stadium in America. It is old but it is AWESOME. I was about 10 rows behind the Carolina bench when Corey Jenkins threw the pick 6 in the 3rd quarter & that was the loudest noise I have ever heard in my life.

Can't wait until October. My favorite trip of all time.

Thank you. LSU folks aren't bad at all. Just have fun with them and make some friends. I lived in BR for most of my life and went to school there so feel free to ask me any questions about Baton Rouge.

They don't throw bags of piss at games anymore. They used to be a rowdier bunch, but for the most part, they just want to have a good time.

  • It is cheaper to fly into BR, and the airport is only a few miles north of campus. I'd only fly into New Orleans if you want to spend a couple days sight-seeing in the city. If you want the entire focus of your trip to be the game and atmosphere before and after, Baton Rouge is a much better airport selection. The city itself reminds me a lot of Columbia.

    Very true.

Worst experience of my game watching life was at LSU the year Troy Williamson was a freshman. Fans cross the line big time. Lots of drunken 25 year-olds who seem to know only a few words, F-CK YOU being their favorite expression.

Witnessed the bags of urine, as well.

The Tiger Bait stuff is tolerable, but some of the fans are simply awful.

That said, it is a great place to watch a game....and as others have stated, stay in New Orleans and enjoy some good food the night before.
