If Miss State holds on for the win then where does everything

  • Cockbert said...

    Ok. it means nothing confused

No it doesn't. It's documented. Tanner hates it and leaves as soon as possible. Regular season sec championship is important. The Hoover tourney is a waste

  • The top seed or SEC regular season championship means a-hell-of-a-lot. Were talking Top 8 National Seed here. As for the tourney, get out as quick as you can, and rest those golden arms, if you are already a top seed.

Exactly. And these fools here talking about a division championship and a Hoover bye

    You said it means nothing.

It means something, whether Tanner or whoever takes it otherwise.

Bottom line is, the overall champ is what is real, and no "fool" on here is overlooking that.

I'll write letter to the two time national championship coach that got out of Hoover both times asap and let him know that cockbert has an emotional attachment to it.

Boy, you sure go to great lengths to prove that you don't even know what you post.

The point I was making is that the East champion gets a bye, that means something, to whoever it may be.

While you are writing your letter, ask Tanner if he prefers that, in order to give his pitching staff an extra day of rest, since regardless, they have to pitch in at least two games.

Boy. I had an at length conversation with Bondo today about the tourney. Said that tanner purposely tries to go 2 and out at Hoover.

Yay. Win the east and get that bye. Just another day that tanner would prefer not be there.

  • Baseball is a marathon ... not a foot race. Tanner would love to hang to another regular season championship banner out there. And next to it? SEC tourney or NCAA Champions. Would be nice to have them both ... but let's check out the winners of the NCAA's, and see how they fared in their conference championships...

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have them both. But do you remember the SEC tourney champ or NCAA tourney champ?

Let's fight for that 3 peat tomorrow!

  • In this case it means a great deal because with an east win the cocks lock up a national seed.

Could you provide us with the documentation?

Like I said. It means nothing. Ask Ray what he thinks of the sec tourney. If you go deep into the tourney it kills arms for the regional. Ray would go 2 and out every time of he could. steve bondurant is a friend of mine. We talked about this very subject tonight and he said that Ray tries to get out of Hoover as quickly as possible. So no, winning the easy is stupid. In fact, I don't think an east winner is recognized at all.

I agree, winning the East is not that important. But in this case, if we win Saturday we will win the SEC and the East, which puts us in the driver seat as a national seed.

This gives us home field advantage for the regional and super regional.

Lose on Saturday, and either KY or LSU will get the National seed.

As Plano has been saying, we need the get one of the 8 national seeds.

I guarantee you Ray wants that.

  • Winning the sec, the east, and the tournament are all accomplishments that the team can be remembered for and displayed.

None of those prevents Carolina from succeeding later in the NCAA.

It is not an either or situation.

I highly doubt Ray purposely tries to lose..I understand not wanting to go deep in the tournament to rest the arms. I'm sure Joel or someone that hasn't pitched much may get the ball in game 1, but to sit here say Ray wants to lose is nonsense.

Take Tanner out of the pitcher then.
Take every coach out of the pitcher.
The fact is...two teams get a bye in the tourney....the East and West winners.
You can argue until the cows come home....but that does mean something. That does matter.

  • Wouldn't 2 and out in the S.E.C. possibly hurt our chances in getting a National seed? Or does this not get looked at by the Tourney Committee?

    gamecockbrad

  • Over the last two years, the importance the selection committee puts on these tournaments has changed a great deal.

I would have agreed with you in the past, but the NCAA factored conference tournaments into seedings last year (particularly when deciding the last couple of top 8 and top 26 seeds). ESPN made a
big point about that last year on the baseball selection show.

It may not matter this year, but that's not certain. If we lose to LSU, but win the SEC
tourney, it may allow us to get a top 8 seed (although I doubt the NCAA gives the SEC three top 8s).

Last year, it meant nothing because we locked up a top 8 before going.

The NCAA started putting some emphasis on it because they were tired of coaches packing it in on purpose.

If we win the SEC, it means nothing and I'd rather get out asap as well.

On a bit of a tangent, it has mattered a great deal to USC at least one year in this respect. We found out a kid named Blake Taylor could perform in the clutch when we used him late in the tourney his JR year and he threw a one hitter in a loss to MSU. We
then used him against UCF in the regional in a do or die situation and won. He then become an great closer the next year. Honestly, the game against UCF or the closer role doesn't happen unless he gets to pitch at MSU because we had no other arms.

This isn't football people. Winning the east means absolutely nothing. At all. We win tomorrow and we win the sec. Not like the east plays the west for the championship.

winning the East gives us a bye in the first round of the SEC tourney
