  • I think their leaving for the Big 12 would be better long term. First off we can recruit against this by telling high school players that their parents would never see them play road games in person, they would spend their weekends on commuter flights to places like Lubbock, Ames and Manhattan. Not to mention, there would be an adjustment period where Clemson would be a middle of the pack team as compared to OU, Texas, and OSU (not to mention Florida State). It took us 15 years to get competitive annually in the SEC. Clemson can't afford to wait anywhere near that long.

That's like asking if it is better for your enemy to be caught humping the neighbors' cat or their dog. Win-win.

  • Well - I would say it would depend on how many ACC schools actually jump ship and go to the Big 12. There are so many different rumors about2, 3 , 4 to 5 schools leaving.. If there is 4 or 5 that jump ship,, then they would have a eastern division so over half the games would still with in driving distance.and the others not.....So I would say staying in the ACC would be the down fall for them

  • As for the expenses, i was tolf by a tater friend that the Big 12 will have a fund that will cover traveling costs for all schools. Essentially, when the Big 12 gets their TV money, it will first giev money to the traveling fun and each school will be reimbursed for their costs. Not sure if its true, but it does make sense. Also, was told that any school joining the conference, will not have to pay their exit fee from their existing conference, the Big 12 will cover it.

  • Abo is telling his AD not to leave the conference and Terry don billy bob sounds like he agrees with him. I don't think they're going anywhere. FSU is the big noisemaker here and the taters are using them as leverage just like they did when we left from the acc.

  • Much better for us if they go to the BIG12 than if they win the ACC often.

  • I wouldn't mind seeing them go to the Big 12 and forever cutting off whatever minute possibility exists of them getting an SEC invite.

Not if winning the ACC is similar to winning the Big East. Obviously there are downsides to both moves,* but which is worse depends upon what the conferences look like after the dust settles. In the meantime, I think it is meaningful that just about every Clemson fan I have met thinks they should leave for the Big 12. That tells me it is probably better for us if they are stuck where they are, since that is the scenario they all dread.

    * Saying that the parents cannot travel to as many games will be huge for some kids, but marginally important for others. Just like the fact that Clemson will have little chance to play for a national title in a diminished ACC will be very important to some, while other kids might reasonably conclude that if maximize national titles is the goal, Clemson is not the ideal choice anyway and that racking up conference titles and BCS appearances (assuming the BCS still looks somewhat the same when all this shakes out) might be fun.

It's still less revenue for Clemson. If the travel expenses come from their TV $ that would be less $ going to the member schools.

I dont know about that. But again this is just what I heard. Right now the Big 12 gets 3 million per year more than the ACC, per team. From what ive heard and read, thats roughly the same as the travel expenses for Clemson if they make the move. But since that will be pooled, Clemson would still make more more than they currently do now. Not to mention, if the Big 12 adds FSU and Clemson, their TV deal will grow too. So, Clemson would more than likely make a bunch more money from the move.
