Is this Tanner's best year of coaching since he has been with us

  • I think it is by far his best coaching year....He is playing sometimes 4-6 freshmen in a game. He has few upper classmen that are his leaders compared to last 2 years.....the team has maintained its defensive greatness and pitching has been great. only fallback with this team is hitting and I attribute most of that to freshmen having to grow up fast in the toughest conference.....This team will be fun to watch the rest of the year and for several years to come....if the hitting just comes around a little then who knows what they will accomplish.....JMHO

ESPN put up a graphic about our starters, amazing we are playing with only 3 returnees, from last year, in the everyday lineup, and have competed for the SEC championship.

  • I think all of them are great. This one falls in that category.

Like I said in the other post, we are hitting .273 as a team. Florida is hitting .279. Hitting is everyones biggest struggle with these new bats.

  • No. Ray has done a helluva job with them this year but 2010 at this point will always be his best work. Now, if we bring home the crown again we can revisit.

  • What goes unnoticed is the coaching Ray did in years we did not make the CWS. He really develops players better than anybody. I think he has been amazing this year. This team was in danger of not even making Hoover just a month and a half ago.

  • I think it would be difficult to top the coaching job he did last year. He replaced the ENTIRE weekend rotation in a time where college baseball is all about pitching and defense. Not only that, his best player, JBJ, was out the second half of the season, and was shell of himself when he returned. It was really amazing to watch this team run through the postseason last year unbeaten. Just my two cents.

Exactly, and to expand that a little at one point last year we had all game 1 starting OF's on the shelf. If he brings home a 3rd title the margin will be razor thin IMO as to which has been the best job overall. I love Ray and think he is a EXCELLENT coach, and I'm sure this will get someone on in an up roar, but the biggest thing that has helped the last several season has been the addition of Holbrook. Which IMO still speaks to Ray's coaching ability. He saw a need, an uber-talented guy to fill said need, and made it happen.

Life in college baseball goes as your pitching goes and to not have much of a clue as to how strong your starting rotation was gonna be, 2011 ranks as the best for me.Tanner could not miss last year. Someone would go down and Ray just plugged another player in their place and it worked out every time that I can remember. You can't be that lucky all season long. When you really know your players and your staff only then can that kind of magic work over the course of the year imo.
