Kelsey Griffin to take another look at favorites

  • Griffin to take another look at favorites
    By Phil Kornblut

DL Kelsey Griffin of Hochston, GA plans to get back to see at least four of his final five before making a decision. Griffin is down to Georgia, USC, Florida, Florida State and Auburn in that order. He said Georgia's lead on USC is not all that great. "I like Georgia because they fit my profile right now," Griffin said. "They've got a little bit of a lead." Griffin said he's communicated recently with USC recruiter GA Mangus thru Facebook. He plans to visit Georgia, Florida and Florida State within the next two weeks, and he's planning to attend USC's Showcase Camp later this month. Griffin said he has no idea when he'll make up his mind. "I'm just working on a decision," he said.

This is why I can't stand Richt, he collects talent with little regard for fit. Its uga and they play a 3-4, where is Kelsey going to play, can't seee him as an undersized NT, and honestly he's not an end, so they may pull him, but the system just doesn't fit this kid IMO. Heck I guess its good for us, if Richt continue to waste top 5 classes.

I have heard he is in the mold of Kelcy Quarles, which is a perfect fit for a 3-4 end.

That said, as far as I am concerned, he is an awful fit for jawja. A square peg in a round hole if you ask me.

  • Steve KQ is a legit 6'4" and 290, with footspeed. KG isn't as fast, but is quick, but he's listed at 6'2" only and 290, which means he's probably 6'1" at best, that's a pretty big difference when it comes to playing end vs dt., also if you look at their roster the guys they actually hace recruited to play DE in their 3-4 scheme are 6'4 and 6'5", the shorter guys were recruited when they played a 4-3.

So honestly unless he grows, which could happen they're going to have to beef him up, and honestly adding 40lbs to that frame, seems like a big job.

JMO, but he'd be better served growing to 300-10 or so only and playing with his quicks in a 4-3, but heck its his call,

I agree. If you look at the type of player Georgia uses for their nose tackles they are big guys that are in the mold of Casey Hampton from the Steelers and the nose tackle (don't know how to spell his name) from the Ravens. I do not understand why he says that Georgia is the best fit for him right now considering that everything I have read from the "experts" suggests that he projects best as a 4-3 tackle in college.

  • He likes the idea of staying close to home.

Fwiw i'm 6'4-6'5 and he's almost eye to eye with me. He is not short. He is probably 6'3.

After seeing both play in person I think foot speed is equivalent. KG probably has better straight line speed, he's a freak.

The real USC is the one that didn't finish in the top 25. The real Carolina is Academic Fraud U. South Carolina back to back Top 10. Got it.

No doubt. Quarles and KG are nothing alike except they play on the D Line. KG is made for a 4 man front.

KG is not 6'3", not even close unless he has grown recently.

Me thinks someone needs a ruler. Honestly the kids a very good player, but he isn't KQ, not far off but not KQ, IMO.
