Keys to beating CU - discuss

  • 1. Pressure Boyd - disrupt his timing and get hands up on the quick throws. Clowney and Taylor should be able to knock some down at the line
    2. Discipline and tackling - CU's offense is all misdirection to get safeties and LBs to freeze and open up routes.The other thing the offense is ALL ABOUT double moves by the receivers... can't bite. We have to tackle in space and limit YAC as well.

    Offensively
    1. control the clock and drive the ball down the field on some 6, 7, 8+ minute drives. Teams play into Clemson's hands when they feel like they have to match up with their offense and score quickly and often. You wear the defense down and they wear their own defense down by them being out there for long drives and CU having quick possessions... hopefully three and outs.

    Our offense will get their points.. their defense is sad.

    I agree with all of your points except that teams play into CU's hands. When you get down 21-28 pts you have to throw the ball. Our front 4 will have Boyd running scared and making mistakes. If we can run block we will stomp a mud hole in them and walk it dry.

    I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.

  • Score early to shut up he fans and then get defensive stops that control momentum. I think Clemson will make their yards, but we have to keep them from gaining momentum and rolling down hill.

    That sounds simplified but we cannot let Clemson get on a roll and confident.

  • Stuff Andre Ellington. I have no problem with them throwing all over the park. If they can't run they won't win. They will be difficult to beat with a decent running attack.

  • Tackle well. We have to limit the YAC's. The defensive backfield need to have a good day.

    Establish the run. If it's on Shaw to win with his arm we are dead. If we get some running established, even with Shaw running, we can hit some passes. No way Shaw can just drop back and pass, He'll bolt too quick.

  • Honestly I think it is about intensity. If we play with anger and intensity and don't let the crowd rattle us, then we win. I trust the defense to do well, but we have to play a lot better on offense. This game is now our season. We need to play like it.

  • Render one of the WRs ineffective and watch carefully the TE and this game is over. Either Nuke or Watkins has to be contained and limited. Ellington will get 60-70 yards rushing but must keep him within sight at all times.....Watch carefully the TE.....Long sustained drives by our offense and keep their special teams contained....

  • Defensively, you have to maintain your patience and continue to play your game even make it the one or two big plays. There's no way to completely shut them down IMO, but you have to be able to slow down somewhat. If you can get to Boyd a good bit he's very easily rattled. He can make some pretty bad mistakes. This will only be magnified if are able to shut down Ellington.

    I think offense needs to hit a couple of those long balls first to open up the underneath off to the tight ends and running backs. Once NC State had hit those long passes, the stuff underneath was open for them all night long. Make the safeties play deep and both the running game and that quick passing game that we can play really well will produce while keeping their offense off the field.
