Kornblut update on Clempson OL recruiting

  • They currently have 1 OL commit from some kid nobody has ever heard of named Maverick. Now, Kornblut has an update on the kid from Heathwood we were considering that committed to Duke. It says Clempson offered right after he committed to Duke but he's sticking with the Blue Devils. They took one away from some 1-AA schools and can't turn a project away from the worst D-1 team of the past 20 years. Until abo can recruit some top shelf OLs I'm not going to worry one bit about his 4 star WRs. Have fun hanging 40 on Wake and Maryland.

  • Another reason Shawn Elliot is the best hire of the Spurrier era. I firmly believe that

You're not alone. No doubt Tanner will seriously consider Elliott when Spurrier rides.

  • Think yall have signed 20 OL's in the last 4 classes including this one. Clemson has signed 15 including this one.

Out of Clemson's 15...2 of them are 4stars and 12 of them are 3 stars and 1 is unranked.

I think we will end up with a total of 16 or 17 in a 4 year span. Not sure if yall are going to take anymore. I don't feel it is a OL recruiting problem as much as it is a strength and conditioning problem. Fitz/Connelly are so much better than Batson.

I got Shawn as 2nd. Fitzgerald as 1st. You should thank Under Armour imo.

    Amen.

Given the choice between Elite WR and Elite RB/OL, I will take the latter every time.

And pretty easy to forget Ellis Johnson....those gotta be the top 3.

I actually think Ellis Johnson will be replaceable. He was great to be sure and took us to a new level, but I think Ward can be great too. Ward is a little more aggressive with blitzes which I think will suit our personnel better.

I think Connolly is only a small step below Fitz.

Elliott would be very tough to replace if we lost him. There just aren't that many great OL coaches out there.

spurrier and ward seem to get along much better than sos did with ej. ej wanted to hit and practice full tilt all the time for toughness. spurrier would say in interviews, we cant leave our season on the practice field with injuries. ej was a excellent dc but i think ward as you stated will be more than adequate as his replacement. spurrier even said before the bowl game when he hired ward as dc , he and i think alike and have very similar opinions about defense.

  • It takes OL time to develop. There is no end in sight to Clemson's OL issue. Despite how bad it was last year they will take a step back this year and be even worse.

I thought Ellis' greatest asset was his ability to make adjustments during the course of a game. He was a great game day strategst. That comes with experience. No doubt Ward can coach. Only time will tell if he is as good on game day. He did pretty good in the bowl game. Hopefully, he can do it for an entire season.

EJ gets the nod for being a better Xs and Os coach on gameday, but Ward is no slouch.

I think one area we will see improvement is our players will be more excited about playing for Ward. More blitzes and more aggressive defenses are more fun for players. I think it will contribute to the "goon squad" mentality.

  • We won't need the blitzes against tater u because the Taylor, Clowney, Quarles, et al will be living in taj's face.

Yep, with them living in CU's backfield the tater QB will think we're blitzing on every play.

The biggest thing with OL is that you need to sign 4-5 almost every year due to attrition and a lot of misses on the OL.

I think only signing one OL so far will hurt you guys greatly this year. I also think you guys wont sign more than 2-3 bc you guys are not looking at the OL.

Sometimes, guys on the DL can be converted to OL but you dont have any of those type of players this year.

The OL will make or break you guys this year. Your offense is will be as good as the OL. You will need to give Taj some time to throw. Also, if there are any injuries up front, you guys will be in even more trouble.
