Melvin Ingram, Commissioner Goodell take hug to new heights
NEW YORK -- At some point, a long time ago, NFL first-round draft picks shook the commissioner's hand upon having their names called in Radio City Music Hall.
Then came the era of the hug, brought on by Commissioner Roger Goodell and his efforts to welcome draft picks to the city in the week leading up to the draft.
Goodell and San Diego Chargers No. 18 selection Melvin Ingram introduced a new era Thursday, with a six-step handshake and hug (Watch here).
So many questions... When/where did they rehearse it? How many times did it take to get right?
Ingram was good enough to answer those questions Thursday night.
"In the meeting yesterday, I told him I wanted to do something different," Ingram said. "It was 99.9 percent mine and .1 percent his."
Ingram says it took two or three rehearsals.
The Huddle can only assume future draft picks will demand more elaborate daps from Goodell. Will he oblige?

That's freakin' hilarious. Kudos to Goodell for having a sense of humor and being willing to go along with that. Rozelle or Tagliabue would have never gone there...

I'm a Goodell fan. He runs a tight ship and has zero tolerance for knuckleheads, but I think he's a savvy business man.
