Liking our chances against LSU...

  • He was kicked off team today

  • Mathieu is not an "elite" cover guy, though he is very good in coverage. He basically played the same position as Antonio Allen last year. He is special on blitzes and stripping the ball. He has a knack for making plays.

That hurts LSU, as he is a turnover machine. I am sure they have 5 guys behind him that will be All SEC, though. LSU always has talent.

That QB is the one that was at jawja at first, right? What did he get kicked off for.

  • I mean, I wouldn't go so far as to say that I "like our chances" at LSU. TM is a great player, but I don't believe his absence greatly increases our chance to win.

We still have to stop their unbelievable stable of running backs and control the ball on offense the entire game.

TM or no TM, LSU is still top 3 team in the country.

What is incredible is that, they lose a Heisman candidate and I still think they should be one of the favorites to win it all this year. They have talent, upon talent, upon talent.

Agree that we will have to control the ball to win the game. But, I think we can do that with our TE's, our RB's coming out of the backfield, and Connor Shaw's ability to scramble. LSU has a lot of inexperienced players on DL, having lost Morris Claiborne, Michael Brockers, Brandon Taylor, and Ron Brooks to the NFL. Now they lose Honeybadger which hurts an already young secondary and also their punt return game which was one of the best in the nation last year. Throw in the graduation of Kendrick Adams, Ryan Baker, and Karnell Hatcher, and their defense will not be as dominant as last year after losing 7 starters and a key backup.
PLUS: We have an unbelievable stable of running backs (better than LSU) and also have talent, upon talent, upon talent for the first time ever.

  • I respect your positivity, rich. Don't necessarily agree with it, but it is certainly refreshing.

  • ok so it doesn't guarantee us a victory in LSU, but lets not belittle the Honey Badger's accomplishments or what he brought to the team last year

He WON the Chuck Bednarik award NATION's BEST defensive player of the year award

    PER ESPN
Mathieu was the team's big-play machine at cornerback and on special teams. The All-American scored four touchdowns -- two on punt returns and two on fumble returns -- intercepted two passes and caused six fumbles and recovered four. WOW

LSU isn't quite as deep at cornerback as it was last season, when it had All-American Morris Claiborne and often used Mathieu as a nickleback. Tharold Simon is the other starter opposite Mathieu. Second on the depth chart are redshirt freshman Jalen Collins and freshman Jalen Mills.

Just saying. HE was a STUD. Not like losing a QB or RB in college but he was a stud and the loss could hurt them. How many of our players scored 4 TD's last year???

  • Hasn't LSU lost like 7-8 starters off of that defense?

Yep. And at least one key backup.
