Listening to Coach Tanner..

  • in a radio interview from yesterday, it is funny to hear how many times he uses the word "battle". Someone should open up a pub next to Carolina Stadium and call it "the Battleship".

  • Wasn't there a post-game interview last year where Wingo said "battle" like 7 times? I think later we found out that the players were having some contest to see who could say battle the most in any interviews that night.

  • If you can find that press conference I think it's from one of the first games in Omaha. When JBJ is talking near the end he stops and Wingo and Roth are just looking at him funny. JBJ says something like, "And we just went out there and battled. We just battle. It's what we do every day" or something like that. It's like JBJ forgot he was supposed to say battle 20 times and they were giving him the stink eye so he threw in a couple at the end. I thought it was pretty funny.

First time I heard Tanner say "battle" was in that heated presser last year after the Clemson series. He was all fired up and talked about battling. I just sort of assumed that the players seized on it then and started using to be clowns which they were great at. When you've got Wingo and Roth leading the way it's going to be a funny and loose dugout.
Or maybe he's always used it and I just never noticed it. I can tell you that ever since then I've noticed us using that word a lot.

  • While I couldn't say I'd name it "Battle" anything (I like the "Win Anyway" Bar and Grill) but myself and few investors have looked into buying land or even one of the old houses in that area to do exactly that. The hold up? USC has purchased or is purchasing or has options on almost every peice of property within 500 yards of the any parcel of land currently owned by the stadium. They have their own plans for how the area will one day be developed. If they don't have an option on the land then the land owners have jacked the price up 10 times what it should be worth. We had one old dude tell us a price and then included he would have to be name 30% partner in the group. Our investment Group was hoping to do something along the lines of Camden Yards without the warehouse. We moved on
