Luke Kuechly

  • I cannot believe Morris Claiborne and especially Mark Barron were selected before Kuechly.

Kuechly was far and away the best defensive player in the draft. He led the nation in tackles the past two years, which is extremely impressive in its own right. As good against the run and making tackles as Kuechly is, he is even better in coverage. This guy is without peer in pass coverage as well

The panthers just got the best defensive player in this years draft at #10. Mind boggling.

You had a one trick pony, a specialist, in Claiborne, who is a great cover guy. He is elite in coverage. But, with him out there, you are playing with 10 guys against the run. He is also a liability when it comes to making tackles in general.

Barron is good in coverage, and good against the run, but if he played for anyone else, he would have been a 2nd round pick.

Kuechly is quite a bit better than these two. That is my analysis.

    Do ya'll agree?

Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.

  • BTW, I just looked it up. I was shocked to find out that he is 6'3" and 230lbs, and ran a 4.5 40. Impressive.

I think you're nuts. No offense. I think the Panthers screwed the pooch once again. Hurney happens.

Based on what? They needed LB help in the worst way, and got the best one in the draft

Great tackler and yet, not very physical. He doesn't take on blocks and will need to in the NFL. The Cowboys picked Claiborne because they need a good cover guy as they haven't had a remotely serviceable one since Prime Time. Claiborne is clearly the best cover guy in this draft. They don't need another small linebacker who can cover ACC tight ends.

Barron will be a bust as will the DTs that got picked between Gilmore and Ingram. Coples was a bad pick. He will shrink in New York.

  • morning radio guys in charlotte were wanting fletcher cox and were saying they didn't want luke. interesting to see steve millers comments on him. based on that analysis looks like a great pick. i think there main complaint was panthers had bigger needs than lb but if he is that good then i can see why they went for him. i was afraid they would take coples as well.

    gqmecock

  • I just heard that Kuechly had over 500 tackles in his career. Holy smokes for the love of all that is holy and good in this great planet of ours that is a LOT of tackles!

6'3" 242 Lbs is undersized? Dudes a beast in the middle and can cover sideline to sideline.

The OP said LK was better than Caliborne and Barron. I disagree with that to begin with. Now, as far who I would have drafted, given the way things played out, I would have taken Gilmore. The Panthers need a CB or DL help. They've got this guy named Beason at MLB already. Before I took LK, in addition to Gilmore, I would have taken Cox, Brockers, and Ingram too.

They needed DL help in the worst way. They need a CB in the worst way. LB was NOT the biggest need by a mile. They went safe. That's fine but a DE or a DE was a WAY bigger need as was CB.

So can John Beason. Oh wait. They have him already.

2 of 3 lb are coming off torn acl's. It's not like they overlaid for Julio Jones or the App State WR. I have a hunch they'll address the DL and CB in the draft

Yeah we have him, and he's coming off a torn ACL

    97srad750

  • Beason is coming off a torn Achilles tendon, which is one if the more difficult injuries to fully recover from. Also Beason has played OLBbefore so it is not out of the question that he does it again.

  • It gives Carolina a linebacker that will stay healthy, which they need badly.

Dallas did the right thing though. Claiborne will take away Hakim Nicks and will be hard for Vick to throw over the top of. Guaranteed to have 5 picks next year.

No he's not. Thomas Davis is. Beason tore an Achilles. Should be fine.

Nope. Torn Achilles. And if he's healed, he's far better than LK.

Ok Achilles either way he was hurt, and can play middle or outside

The thing is you don't have to pick one over the other

Beason is WAY better in the middle. He's NOT an outside backer. I don't hate the pick but they went safe. DE/DT/CB were much bigger needs and there were options available.

If they both play MLB, yes you do. They added depth at a position when they had much bigger holes elsewhere. Additionally, if they wanted LK, I think they could have traded down and still got him.
