  • I feel no pity for him. He had opportunities that most people never get and he blew them.

  • Sad

    Super Bowl: William

William The Refrigerator Perry is stubborn. He is not the innocent Fridge from the Chicago Bears' famous 1985 season. He is not coachable. William Perry does what he wants -- and that includes still drinking.

  • I lost respect for him when he snubbed the Payton family and did not go to Walter Payton's funeral. This is even after Payton's wife requested his presence at the services.

Guy also has a severe alcohol problem that most people don't have. The size of his house or bank account or reputation doesn't change that.

Unless you've struggled with addiction you have no clue what he goes through on a day to day basis.

  • Sorry I did not post a link. ESPN had a story up on him.

I don't pity him b/c it's of his own making and just one more story of someone making it and living to excess.

His fame/$$$ also brought opportunity and help from others that he refuses.

  • True, but he doesn't have as much $$ as most people think; especially with that extended stay in the hospital.

nobody made him pick up the bottle and start drinking it just as nobody made some meth head start using meth

dude is a loser and i have no pity for his fat, clempsin ass

trooperdel is right. the guy had opportunities greater than 99% of the human population and he chose to drink himself into this condition

  • I lost respect for him when I saw him at a gas station in Augusta one year during Masters week. He had a 24oz Budweiser can in his cup holder. I will never forget that

You should read Josh Hamilton's autobiography, you will think differently of addictions to drugs and alcohol. It's true, no one made him pick up the bottle, but you don't know you're an addict till it's too late.

  • By saying "chose to drink" you indicate ignorance of addiction. Not trying to start a fight, just stating the fact.

You're certainly entitled to that opinion, but it's pretty obvious that you've never dealt with anything like it yourself.

The $$$ is not as big an issue as his fame. Many ex-coaches, players, etc. have tried to rally around him and get him help. He has steadfastly refused it. He's exhibited extremely selfish behavior and does not care how it affects those who love him.

  • Perry has made some really dumb decisions that didn't involve alcohol. I mean really, who builds a $5,000,000 house between a trailer park and cemetery and across the street from a junk yard?

    Jefe5235

  • He was supposed to play golf at my wife's company tournament in Anderson for some charity a few years ago. She said he showed up late, got something to eat, got a couple of beers, signed 8-10 autographs, and headed for the first hole. About 30 minutes later he came riding back to the clubhouse by himself and asked for his money so he could leave. At this point, the guy running the show handed him his check and said goodbye. He hasn't been invited back since.

Josh Hamilton is a great story...but i still have no pity

and my grandmother died from alcoholism -- no pity there either

The money he once had gave himn extraordinary repources to deal with his problem that many folks who have addictions don't get.

Read the article. They guy has been given many chances. He just doesn't care.

Don't mistake my criticism of an irrepsonsible jackass with an addiction as a criticism of all with addictions.

  • it takes a special kind of creep to read/hear about the fridge's current condition and then call him names and run your yap about where/how he chose to biuld his home 20+ years ago.

a word of advice: when talking about people who are in pain and on death's doorstep you should pretend to have class.

you guys sound like complete toolbags.
