McEvoy arrested, suspended

  • Tempest said...

Tell you what, homey, once someone you know dies because of a drunk driver, feel free to come back and tell me how you feel about ANYONE having a beer and then getting behind the wheel. Making a list of things you can do at 18 doesn't allow someone to break another law. That's like saying "Hey, I can drink, vote blah blah blah at 21, how come I can't run for President?!?". That's the law - "get a freakin life!". The bottom line is this - if you know its against the law, and you do it anyway, man up and face the consequences of getting caught. If you can't do that without complaining, then you're obviously not mature enough to drink in the first place.

Losing someone is a horrible thing. Regardless of whether Tanner was drunk or not, I think all of us, and I would bet even you, have driven before when they were younger and probably shouldn't have.

The point here is not whether it is right or wrong to drive drunk, it is. The point is why arrest a 19 yr old for something you would not arrest a 21 yr old for, it is a good debate. I believe you are or were in the military. Your saying there is not something a little weird about being able to die for your country, but not drink. I am a recovering addict and alcoholic, I do not drink and think it's bad, bad stuff for most people. Rules are still funny sometimes.

  • I don't drink at all, simply because if I did I know I would drink and drive. And since I think anyone who drinks and drives should be locked up for a year and then never allowed to drive again, I would not take the risk. Yep, I sure did go overseas, and I think it's completely fine to say that 18, 19 and 20 year olds don't have the maturity level to drink. Looking at binge drinking rates in the country, I'd think that's backed up pretty well. Looking at alcohol consumption rates across the globe, I think that's backed up pretty well.

  • I have had five friends lose there lives in car wrecks that involded Alchol. I understand your pain and I understand your stance on drinking and driving. How ever, How can you honestly say that someone who has 1 beer and drives home perfectly sobber should serve 1 year in prison? Thats absolutly insane! I mean you would take a father, mother and brother away from there family for a year over having a beer and driving home? I could possibly see your point it they blew over the leagal limit here but one beer thats just absurd, and you are way over reacting here.

You are preacing to the choir about binge drinking. Binging almost ruined my life.
Very few people can handle their booze, and I am not one of them.

If someone just has a drink, and is not impaired, and then drives, that is a different thing, though. The argument started because Tanner was not impaired. He only got arrested because he was underage. I have no problem with the drinking age. I do think it is a little hyprocritical the things they let people under the legal drinking age do, though. I see some double standards in the fact that someone is considered mature enough to take the lives of other people, and risk seeing their comrades killed, but are deemed not mature enough to drink.

There is no argument for driving drunk. That is like shooting a gun in a mall.

Well, "Homey", I have known plenty of people that were killed by drunk drivers. If you read my post, I am against drunk driving. My son was almost killed by a drunk driver 5 1/2 years ago and is still trying to recover. I'm 63 years old, I think I'm mature enough.Obviously you missed my point. No one said what he did was not illegal. What I said was it is mindless insanity to be "mature" enough to do those other things and not be able to buy a beer. No evidence McEvoy was impaired by alcohol. I hope if you ever go one mile an hour over the speed limit you will man up and turn yourself in. It's illegal you know.

  • I don't speed either. But keep trying desperately to find ways to show how much of a hypocrite I am. It's amusing.

  • Epic pillowfight, fellas.

Don't flatter yourself that I need the high of calling you out. I too was in the military, I was an Infantry Officer and I like no nonsense. By the way, lose the Mohawk, it ain't helping you make your point. Laugh that off.
