Met Bruce Pearl today

First of all, he was a class act, and after talking to him for a while I found that he was a gamecock football supporter
So naturally we talked bout Lattimore's Injury, but he said not to worry too much because we have a similar athlete who can put the team on his back and lead us to victory in Bruce Ellington
Also said Bruce is one hell of an athlete
Just thought you guys would like to know

Gamecock supporter or just follows SEC football? Does he have ties to the state?
FYI if Lattimore had been in a different class then Bruce Ellington would most definitely have been the state's Mr. Football in 2010.

he never said he was marcus lattimore, just a similar athlete in the sense of a person who can carry the team

This appears to be the take of a jersey wearer/jock sniffer.
No one in their right mind thinks Bruce Pearl is a class act. He is a very good public speaker. Most con artists are.

while everybody gets in line to dis bruce pearl, understand that the university of tenn & their sports fans are more responsible for bruce pearl than bruce pearl
big time sports is about money. winning=money=adulation from public & athletic directors. bruce pearl is a used car salesman. but anybody could have told that from day one
pearl acted in a manner quite acceptable to the media public students & administrators as long as they were kicking butt on the court.
i am sure bruce pearl is not inhuman. he probably brakes for kittens. not all bad, like most of us. but he is what he is, somebody quite willing to break the rules to give his bosses what they wanted.
it is a shame bruce pearl did not have to deal with ron morris.

This thread got me thinking - which 8 year span would you choose? 8 years of having a coach that does everything by the books, goes to maybe 1 or 2 NCAA tourneys, a couple of NIT's, wins 20 games once or twice, and goes about .500 in the SEC overall with home attendance hovering around 10,000 per game? Or.......an 8 year span like Pearl had at UT.....even if it means a couple of lost schollies and probation for a couple years aftewards? I can't help it..... I'd take Pearl right now in a hearbeat.

OP - a great recruiter like Bruce Pearl is essentially a salesman. It's a major part of his job to be well liked. So, it's not surprise that he made a great impression on you. It doesn't make him any less of a liar and a cheat.
Having said that, if this Horn thing doesn't work out, I'm more than willing to give Bruce Pearl a shot as our coach. Give him a short leash, etc. Our basketball program needs a major shot in the arm right now.
