Michael Boynton

  • I hope the new coach keeps him. He is a good recruiter and has bonds with kids in state. He also has a place in my heart because when I was little I faintly remember my dad taking me to meet him. He lived in our neighborhood in Lawrenceville, Ga and so my dad and I just went by and knocked on the door and met him. Don't remember it too much because it was a while ago but I remember him being very nice to me. Hope he sticks around.

The real USC is the one that didn't finish in the top 25. The real Carolina is Academic Fraud U. South Carolina back to back Top 10. Got it.

  • Agree 100%. Boynton was the savior of this whole staff and kept them in the game with recruits and with HS/AAU coaches who Horn pissed off. Boynton could keep some continuity with current players and the 2013 recruits which are crucial. Generally, new coaches will bring an entire staff, but if there is room for 1 he should get it.

No way, Boyton was a big part of the old regime and contributed to the lack of player development. Good recruiter, but not a great coach, IMO. Need to make a clean break and a new start for the new coach.

  • Is he the guy Horn demoted and later promoted since no one else wanted the job?

    Or was that someone else?

  • I agree. He is a great recruiter, I want to keep some continuity to help keep us in the game with guys like Thornwell and Peak.

  • If you can recruit which boynton can you can work anywhere - especially here where we need players and we are in the game with some guys for next year because of him. Boynton is not a Horn guy like berry and bunton. Don't dismiss him because he worked for Horn. He is a tremendous asset on the recruiting trail.

  • New Coach equals new staff. It is called a respect thing toward the new Coach. he names his staff.

Basketball is littered with assistants don't do a ton of X and O work, but are great recruiters.

The head coach is so involved in all aspects of basketball strategy, you don't need a staff full of great tacticians. That said, you better have at least one great recruiter as an asst.

I don't have a good feel one way or the other, but just disagree with the premise.

  • I'm sure Mike Young would keep Mike because of their relationship. Not sure if anybody else would.

Boynton is a great person and I was a huge fan of him as a player. However, Berry is the better recruiter and the coach with the closest relationships with current recruits the staff was going after, especially in state kids. No offense to Boynton, but this past year he lost two decent recruits that were committed to USC. He was their primary recruiter and didn't even know they were wavering or that they were going to decommit. The rest of the coaching staff couldn't believe he had no knowledge they were going to decommit. This is really neither here nor there because its highly unlikely any of the current staff will be retained.
