Mr. Bojangles (CEO) called me...

  • I had left a vmail yesterday for the CEO of Bojangles, Randy Kibler and he called me back tonight at around 6:45 PM. He could not have been nicer. He is a graduate of Spring Valley in Columbia and a Gamecock grad! He reads those comments you all are sending through the Bojangles website and he said he and the local franchise owner of the store across from the Brice are committed to doing all they can to make that particular location as "Gamecock" as possible. He also confessed to me that working for a company where orange is the primary color has never been easy for him since he is a big Gamecock fan. He said the awning will have to stay orange because it is so tied into Bojangles' identity. He said if they painted it Gamecock colors then every Bojangles that is near every college campus would insist on doing the same thing.
Anyway, I like Bojangles even more now!!
    clap

  • Upvote thanks for sharing. Isn't the orange awning the big issue though?

  • Not sure but I understand where he is coming from. Chapel Hill would want to paint the Boj awing baby blue, ECU purple, NC State red, and so on.

  • This is reminiscent of the time people boycotted Damon's for daring to have a Clemson jersey in the building.

This could be pretty easily taken care of with an architectural review board w/zoning authority.

I used to eat at a Bojangle's in Charlotte directly behind the mall that had no awning at all. There was a sign on the side of the building that was yellow and had the little multi-colored stars on it.

No one in the area was allowed to have awnings on their building.

Maybe we should insist that the traffic cones the city of Columbia puts out on Assembly St. and Rosewood Drive on gamedays be some color other than orange.

  • I love me some Bojangles. Best chicken IMO and the best breakfast biscuits and it ain't even close. The country ham and egg is my favorite and it is a drive to Columbia game day breakfast must...actually, make that 2 of them.

I live in Greenville and used to have to drive across town to get my fix, but they just built one near where I live at Cherrydale. Love it.

Agreed C& L. I've known Randy for some years now and we'll have better luck with the next CEO of BoJangles I think. Randy tends to change jobs like ...well... you know, but he always seems to land on his feet. He used to have the Gooney Bird's locations in West Columbia and Laurens a few years back as well.He sold prepaid legal services prior to that. CEO's can sling it with the best of em' and he is a very, very, good salesperson.

LCD...I really appreciate your persistence in staying with this idea, because I think it would be unique for that BoJangles location as well as really cool for the overall look down Bluff Rd when things are finished. Here's to hoping that they are "committed" to this great idea that could only enhance game day for so many of their patrons.

Best breakfast biscuits and it ain't even close? Are you kidding me? I'm not big on fast food breakfast but nobody does fast food breakfast biscuits better than Hardees. If you prefer Bojangles biscuits over Hardees then you obviously would prefer salisbury steak over a ribeye or filet.

  • Well trained marketing and or PR guy. Very nice of you to to LCD and very appropriate to ask. Again, not a bad favor to ask....just not a real possibility....that and the follow-on would really fracture their brand id.

  • they could write into their bylaws or whatever they may have that says unless the particular store is within 400 yards of a stadium the color scheme can not be changed. I mean really, how many stadiums have a Bojangles at their front door. Let me rephrase that, how many stadiums have a Bojangles at their front door and the aforementioned restuarant's CEO is a graduate of that particular school......if this cant be pulled off, something is wrong.

Yes that's a problem because the (disgustingly) orange color is a part of their brand identity.

Just like McDonald's golden arches, the Apple logo, etc.

They don't want 1,000 different awning colors because they want people to see the same, consistent color and immediately crave fried chicken.

Exactly! Being someone who works in Brand Marketing and Identity, companies work very hard and spend many dollars to carve out their identity in the marketplace. As much as I would love to see this particular location represent the garnet and black colors, it would be a bad move from a corporate standpoint. Bojangles has been very successful with its Branding and folks recognize them by their visual appearance. To make changes all across their footprint with no common theme would potentially have a negative affect. People would not recognize/find a Bojangles as easily due to the variance in color schemes as well as Bojangles previous monetary investments, commercials, print adds etc...... would all have to be redone and potentially localized which would grow their expenses tremendously. The old saying applies......if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
