I would take Kevin stallings over Gregg Marshall EVERY day of the week and twice on Sunday. If he can recruit and win at Vandy, he will do it at South Carolina.

He is a proven winner, with an SEC pedigree. Also worked for Roy Williams at Kansas.

Im not saying Stallings isn't a good coach but look at his conference records, similar to Horn. Year 4 he only won like 3 games and didn't have a winning record until year 7 or 8. He obviously was given time and turned it around but it wasnt looking good.

No thanks. More often than not his teams are soft and many basketball people will tell you the same.

Stallings would be a huge upgrade as a basketball coach at USC and he deserves enormous respect for the job he's done at Vandy.

But the idea that he would be a slam dunk at USC doesn't hold up under closer observation. Stallings recruits in a totally different world than a state school like USC, clemson, Georgia or Tennessee. He's going for kids from eastern prep schools, international players and the occasional five-star recruit with bang up grades and board scores who isn't going to dook. I doubt if he's ever met an AAU coach and that's fine for Vandy but not for us.

Stallings at USC reminds me very much of the Bill Foster hire at South Carolina in 1980. They're similar in age. Foster was 50, Stallings is 52. Both have had success and recogntion at a top tier academic private school in a major conference, although Foster had a Final Four and a Final Eight in the three years before he came to Columbia while Stallings has two Sweet 16's in his time at Vandy as his NCAA tourney high points. Neither were Dave Odom. By that I men Foster was and Stallings is a skilled, hard-working recuiter. But neither has a lick of experience dealing with the typical South Carolina or Georgia High School basketball coach or mother and grandmother of the typical prospect in these states.
