My pick for next Head Coach

  • Let me start by saying that I hope SOS is here for a while. I understand that continuity in coaching staff helps and I think it's obvious that having the same nucleus at USC for the past 7 years is paying dividends for our program. With that said, I can't help but look ahead and start thinking about the next head coach at USC.

I like Mario Cristobal at FIU. FIU went 0-12 the year before he became head coach. They went 1-11 in his first season and have improved every year since. Four years in, they won a conference championship and are sitting at 5-3 this year with wins over Louisville, UCF, and Troy. They're averaging 400+ yds of offense per game and are allowing 22.6 points per game which ranks 40th nationally.

He is a young, energetic coach that has turned a 6-year-old FBS program into a decent team and a conference champ. He won two national championships playing at Miami and had a very brief stint in the NFL. He recruits against Florida, FSU, Miami, USF, UCF, and all of the other teams that recruit the state of Florida. He is known to be a very good recruiter (given his resources).

    Thoughts?

  • I'd like to put my name in the ring. I can promise the Carolina fan base video game scores with lots of drags across the middle and a defense that will dominate with me controlling one line backer, blitzing every down.

Sounds like a winner. IMO I think the next hire will be the most important in Carolina history the wrong hire can send us back to the bottom of the SEC. I like Dan Mullen to be the next coach. MSU has become a better team since he took over and florida obviously took a large step back when he left. This year MSU isn't great but losing the talent he did playing in the best conference on the strongest side can't be easy. I either want a proven head coach like a Peterson from Boise the TCU coach or a coach like Mullen. If not a proven coach we need the next big thing a young energetic hard working tireless recruiting coach. Like the one you mentioned. It's never to early to think about things like this. Something this important a decision that can make us or break us is nothing to take lightly.

  • I highly doubt you are going to get Mullen, Patterson or Peterson if you are Carolina. I do think that Vandy's coach is for the taking in 2 more seasons. I love that guy. Here are the probable candidates
5% Chance: Dantonio- If you can win in East Lansing, you can win anywhere.
20% Chance: Charlie- He would leave Florida now for our HC job
20% Chance: Leech- Lord I hope not
    20% Chance: Tubberville- Same
    85% Chance: Mangus
    90% Chance: Ellis

  • No Gary Patterson! Maybe Spurrier will be here long enough so when he retires Eric Hyman will retire with him then Ray Tanner can take over as Athletic Director then Tanner can hire the coach.

If Spurrier left in the next year or two I'd like to see Ellis get a shot, as long as the rest of the staff maintained some continuity also. I especially want Lawing, Graham, and Mangus to stick around. jury still out a little on Elliot but I think he's a keeper too.

We don't want nor need Weiss. He is a total As#R$@. He is overrated and has built his legacy on Brady. We want someone with a positive attitude and direction.

Im also a fan of James Franklin...My business partner in Gatlinburg is a HUGE Vandy supporter with connections, and he raves how he's changed the mindset in Nashville, and his relentless efforts to upgrade that program...He already has the best recruiting class committed in recent history, and still working hard, I was told...If this guy wins over the next 2 years, he will be my pick as the next guy...

I respect others thats been discussed here, but the vast majority are in their upper 50s...All things being even, I would like to get a younger coach who has proven himself at a school that needed rebuilding...Also, Frankin will have SEC experience, which I think is important..
