A couple of comments. First, this is nothing more than what has become popular. Somebody started this 'he played heavier this year', and now everyone is repeating it. Truth of the matter; he was a few pounds lighter this year, according to his coaches.
Second: who does get real separation in the SEC? This guy says he 'watched film, and Alshon wasn't getting open this year'. The only thing he could have watched was the TV coverage, and the cameras would not follow Alshon around. He has no idea if Alshon was open, or 'getting separation' or not, unless the ball was thrown to him. Then, it only showed when the ball got there, and for the first half of the season, the balls were not thrown in the correct spot anyways.
The dropoff in stats was not due to him being heavy, or not getting open. The first factor was; for whatever reason, Stephen Garcia lost what little accuracy he had, and could not throw the ball into an ocean this year. Then, Kyle Nunn got hurt, and we started getting sacked at an alarming rate.
When Connor came in, he was a lot more careful with the ball than Garcia, and would not just throw it up to a triple covered Alshon, like Garcia would. Alshon would win at least half of those the previous yr, but the other half of the time, Garcia would be picked off.
Finally, Shaw had to adjust to what was open in college, and especially in the SEC. He just did not know where to throw it when people started playing zone. There was a defender just close enough to every spot he looked to make him second guess. There were quite a few completions left on the field because of this alone.
When shaw got comfortable against klimpson and nebraska, we saw the 'old Alshon' again. All of the sudden, he was fast and 'getting separation' again.
These guys are nothing more than parrots repeating what everyone else says. He said he was not a first rounder. Then you said how he dogged these first round corners, so he must be a first rounder. He agreed with you. This guy had just watched Todd McShay, and was just repeating what some other parrot said. All idiots.

My favorite line was over on a Dolphins list where an Auburn fan who after stating he watched Jeffery torch them their championship year in the game at Auburn from seats in the endzone (saying AJ was "there a lot") said of him: "He'd set up a Hammock on Revis Island."

Or maybe his coach was just defending him in the media. I know for a fact the strength coaches were on him and they receive direction from the coaches. How is junior supposed to answer the question? Call his best player, who is normally a shy guy fwiw, fat to the press?
