I'd certainly hate to lose the best coach we've ever had, but if he must move on, this is the best case scenario. The baseball team would still be in good hands, and I'm sure he will make one awesome AD. This could be a good move.

That was great stuff, JW. I was unaware that Tanner had operated the baseball program in the black, I doubt there are 6 programs in the country that do that.
After reading this, he seems to have way more administrative experience, and expertise than I thought. I would be shocked if he is not the next AD. Sounds like Pastides has been leaning that way for a while.

You have to admit that running his program in the black, when I doubt the basketball even did that last year, is an impressive feat.
Are you close to approving now, Al? I know you would rather have Ross Perot, but, with Ray's foundation he has been raising money for and distributing, and his Special Assistant's title, he's got some credentials.

not sure about that but it certainly seems the dye was cast on Hyman's successor, whenever he left.
I, for one, am all for this. Folks need to be rewarded for over and above achievement. And Ray sets the standard in that department.
Plus, he's a helluva human being.

Steve, I'd rather have an AD who's served as an AD - not an assistant, not an associate, not a go-between but the person in charge. I certainly think that Tanner should be given due consideration along with everyone else who applies but President Pastides shouldn't hire Tanner simply because he's been a superior baseball coach. Similarly, when it comes time to replace Coach Spurrier, I hope our AD will not be driven by sentimentality and hire an assistant off the staff if there are better choices elsewhere.

Fair enough.
Though I don't think anyone is saying hire him just because of his coaching abilities. You are right in that it would be silly to do that.
