OT: Anybody bought a 2012 Jeep Wrangler?

  • was wondering how much they can come off the price on average

  • go to Edmunds .com and other similar sites.....there you can build the car you want and get what the dealer paid for the car with all your options. You can also spend 14 bucks and get a report that shows the "dealer holdback" money. That is the money Jeep holds back for the dealer .They can sell you the Wrangler at cost and still make the dealer holdback. Get quotes from 6-7 dealers online ...all bidding on the same exact Wrangler. Choose the 3 lowest and see who will take the lowest amount of money .Since you know what he has in the car and his holdback it puts you at least on equal playing field .
You just go to the dealer to pick up the car. It is so much easier than dealing with all the "lot lizards" at the dealership .(no offense anyone).
I have purchased 2 new cars in the last 4 years this way and if you are patient and not in a hurry...you can save some money.
I ordered a 2010 Vette with 4 LT package(all the bells and whistles) this way. Sticker was 65,780..........I paid 57,315...... dealer made 1,200 on his dealer holdback.....it was 1400 $ but he came off 200 because I knew what he was making and told him I had a better offer. I did but the other dealer wanted 5 k deposit this guy just needed 1 k....so I bought it there.

  • If you are a Costco member, you have another option. They have a buying program that you can find on their website. You apply through them and they put you in touch with a dealer affiliate. I bought a car this way last year and got a price below dealer invoice. It is a no haggle price. I also had a trade-in and got blue book value for a car in its condition.

Buy at the end of the month or even at the end of the year. The Costco program sounds similar to the program we have through my wife's work. Basically, the manufacturer sells the car for 1% over invoice, but you retain any cash back or other incentives being offered. That gets you below invoice. We purchased our jeep and titan this way. Nissan gave us the Titan for 1% over invoice (employee price) - 1500 preferred customer discount - 5000 cash back. There is no haggling and the dealership loves you because they get reimbursed for the difference between what you pay and msrp. Although you pay less than nearly all of their customers the dealership actually makes more than they do off of 90% of their cars.
