You might walk through the pawn shops in the surrounding area over the next couple of weeks and see if any of your things show up. Most pawn dealers cooperate with the police. If you spot your things let the police know. You may be able to recover things. For the future keep a list of serial numbers from things like laptops, ipads, ipods, cameras and those things that are likely to be taken. If things of value don't have serials, you can apply your own number (maybe the last four of your social). Its called an owner applied number (OAN) and can be entered into the NCIC file for traceability. For jewelry take photos of your valuables That can be an invaluable tool in identifying items later. Should you arrive at your home or business and suspect a breakin do not enter. Call the police and let them do a house search first. The suspect may still be there or you may disturb potential evidence. You might organize a meeting and have the crime prevention officer to come and give you further tips. Just a few quick thoughts.
