OT: Charleston eatery worth checking out!

  • Guys this one is "off the map" so to speak

The Tattooed Moose (I don't know the owner or anyone here)

It's been open a little over a year.

Craft Beers and then get the DUCK Club and the Duck Fries.

Pretty insane. Diners Drivein's and Dives is filming there mid January.

We are always looking for new places. This place is a gem.

(This is the off the radar eatery thread) No Hymans here!

  • I live here, been there. It's a cholesterol factory but a good one. Try Taco Boy right down the block too.

  • Sounds good. Thanks.

  • Santis. Just down the street where meeting and east bay intersect. Best Mexican in town.

It's the same people who own Voodoo in Avondale (Duck Sliders :). They have great food, beer and good taste in music. The duck fries with pressed garlic and blue cheese aoli are fantastic, as is the burger and the smoked chicken BLT.

Santi's is a decent eatery over there, great margaritas. The real find over there, if you're not familiar with it is Bertha's Kitchen. Go there for lunch and get the fried porkchops, double meat!

  • Tattooed Moose has a dart board (my interest) but you have to kick someone off a table and move said table to use the board. They also have Stella in the new chalice can.

  • Yea Santi's is our favorite. Taco Boy is great, just got too busy in the last couple of years.
For Italian Cuoco Pazza. They are from Siciliy and Tuscany. Straight up best Italian we have found in Charleston now. It is in Mount Pleasant in the same center La Hacienda is in.

For those just hitting this thread. We are trying to give you some of the off the map places that aren't spoken about as much.

Thanks on Bertha's George. Always mean to try it. Will do so this week.

  • Moe's crosstown is back open, which is right over there. Arguably the best burger place in town, especially on 1/2 price burger night.

Best Italian in Charleston is Lucca, actually may be the best restaurant in town... I know I know , that is saying a lot.

Lucca great. We disagree though. I love you though Pierce.

I worked that area for about 7 years...the "neck area" of charleston where those spots are will develop more but I can't see it getting too much more....there are 3 housing projects right there that won't be up rooted(especially after what happened off of concord)...tattoo moose isn't bad though...

My 2 cents stay away from santi's...many bad experiences I could share but will spare you the gory details.

All others are awesome...add Glass Onion to the list (w. ash)

Would love to hear you expand? Is it a front? The food is top notch.

CofC do you know Chris Costanzo? He has won officer of the year downtown multiple times. He is a nut. We used to wakeboard together a ton.

  • My bowels will never be the same after my last Santis visit. Used to be a fan, but will never go back.

Just tried Eli's Table (old josephs) for the lunch the other day for the first time. Get the filet sandy on English muffin. DANK

  • Me and the wife are headed down soon to try this place out. Love the thread and the duck club sounds awesome. I visited the website and saw pork belly and craft beer and needed to read no further.

Used to love the place too...then got rocked by something nasty a few years back...the same thing has happened to many friends too...You are playing with fire there

  • Try Husk. Simple but well executed local food. Sean Brock is the Chef and owner. I thought it was great.

Degams. Husk is rated the best restaurant in the United States. We were trying to keep this to the off the map type places. But great establishment obviously.

  • The tacos pastor are worth the risk at Santi's. I've never heard of any friends or myself getting sick, but I've seen posts online.

For the locals, I think Oriental Garden has some of the best sushi in the area. It's not a place I'd drive too far to get, but if you're in Mount P and want really good, cheap sushi, it's a winner.

I never see Dave's Carryout on Morris and Coming mentioned, but it's got a cult following. Very good hole-in-the-wall spot. Food is really good and really cheap.

My favorite sandwich shop around is Mozzo Deli in Mount P. I've got friends that live West of the Ashley that will drive over just to have lunch. My favorites are the Fusion, Honeyslide, and Colorado Roots. Their pimento pasta salad is insane.
