OT - Did anyone realize that Navy has 2 varsity football teams

  • The regular NCAA team we played last year and a team in the Collegiate Sprint Football League. 65 scholarship athletes, max weight of 172 and a minimum body-fat percentage of 5%.

"There are currently six teams playing in the CSFL. Army, Cornell, Mansfield, Navy, Pennsylvania and Princeton play a full schedule of league and non-league games during the fall sports season."

  • I heard about this last year, pretty interesting stuff. USC's club football team went up and played their JV guys last year, and the sprint team played right afterwards.

  • My nephew played Sprint Football his first year at the Naval Academy. He had a blast but then decided to play Rugby his second year and this year. He found it very difficult, at 6'2" to maintain the required weight maximum.

You are correct in that I used a poor choice of words. He was constantly having to fight to stay at or below the maximum. When using the word maintain in conjunction with the word maximum, it creates illogical syntax. Good catch. Hopefully others, as you certainly did, understood what I meant.

Nonetheless, the sprint football guys, particularly at the service academies, can bring it despite the weight cap. Fun game to watch.
