OT: Edisto Beach recommendations

  • IWe're going back fin July or a week at our favorite beach for the first time in 5 years, and I could use some recommendations on eating out, as I imagine some things have changed.

We love the Old Post Office, but won't be going there because our two grandkids will be with us. The 2-1/2 year-old loves to run amok, and his 9-year old sister loves to egg him on.
So we're looking at real casual, family type places to go when we first arrive, and then once or twice more to give the ladies a break from cooking.

Are the Sea Cow and the Jungle Shack still good? How about the restaurant at the pier, which I believe has changed hands a couple of times?

Anything else? I could love me a shrimp po'boy or a couple of fish tacos.

  • Cow and shack good last season and Pier was very good at lunch.

  • My family likes the Waterfront on Jungle Road alot.

Also, the same folks that owned Old Post Office used to own Sunset Grille down at the Marina, but not sure if that has changed or not. Sunset Grille has really good seafood but not as upscale/pricey as OPO.

  • Old Firehouse in Hollywood is worth the 20 min ride. Chef/Owner used to be the Chef @ Old Post
Office. Firehouse is plenty casual for the kids. They get a lot of Edisto traffic.

Wow, thanks! Hadn't heard of that one. I'll definitely check it out.
We have been to Po' Pigs on Edisto Island, which was good BBQ.

Whaley's has some pretty good wings. Jungle Shack is pretty good. Was there this winter

  • Just got back. Enjoyed the Waterfront on Jungle Rd. Fits the bill for what you are looking for. Good food, reasonable and a family atmosphere.

His daughter does most of the cooking now, but it's still good and, yes, more casual/family friendly.

I second this recommendation. We go there every year as our friends get together dinner. When we started that, there were just 8 of us. Now that kids have been added it's up to 14 and the crew at the Firehouse has been accommodating every time. Not to mention the food is incredible. Whaley's is supposed to have good fish tacos, but I'm not sure how family friendly they are.
