OT: Going to Disney and LA

  • I have a won a recognition trip to Disney World for Q1 results for 4 days next weekend. I have never been before and was wondering if there was anything that I should know before going. We are staying on site.

I also won a trip for April to LA for 3 nights for the American Idol finale. I have never been to LA either. Is there anything that is a must see or a place have to go to eat?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Who all is going and what are the ages? This will determine your course of action. Magic Kingdom has so good rides and obviously it is the most magical feeling with the castle and all. Hollywood Studios has a few great rides like rockin rollercoaster, tower of terror and it sounds like a kids ride but toy story mania is awesome. Take advantage of the fastpasses as this will keep your wait times down. Also since you are staying on the property you have to take advantage of the extra magic hours, one park each day will open up an hour early or stay open later up to like 4 hours. These extra magic hours are only for guest staying in the Disney property and the parks are great during this time! I suggest planning which park to go to on which has the late magic hours that night. Do you have park hoppers or base tickets? The shuttle service is phenomonial and will pick you up at the resort and take you to the parks and back. Which resort are you staying at? You will have a blast and really become a kid again!

  • Thanks for your help. It's just me and my dad meeting with other managers. We have a 2 day park hopper pass.

  • I was in Anaheim a few years back for a meeting. Went out early with 2 co-workers. Went to Hollywood Bowl and saw a John Williams concert, the composer of lots of block buster movie scores. That was fun. Sat in the nose bleeds drinking beer watching the Angels baseball. Sunday took in a service at The Crystal Cathedral. Also, walked around UCLA, went to the bookstore to get a t-shirt and drove around Beverly Hills. My co-worker had to take a leak so we pulled in a BK. They made him purchase something to use the jon!!!!
I'll PM you some restaurants when I get the names. One was right outside the UCLA campus in BH. It's italian and was mentioned as "alice's resturant" i believe in a song from the 60's. We also ate on the beach in Laguna. That was a bit of a drive. Our manager took us to this place that we were out of place. Looked like lots of shakers & rollers. And we were dressed down in jeans. But the martini's were served in glass dipped in dry ice so the smoked when the liquid was poured in at the table. THAT WAS COOL.

This is the best explanation you can get. We do family trips every year, sometimes twice. If you have kids, they will be worn out, but have a blast at the same time. Check out Animal Kingdom as well, as they have rides to at the very least appease the adults. Have fun, take pictures and try not to get caught up in the Magic. That may be easier said than done though.
