OT: Has anyone eaten gator meat?

Really surprised no one else has mentioned the sausage. IMO that's the way to go. Cajungrocer.com uses young, small, farm raised gators. That may be the way to go.
Best recipe I've had was hard boiled quail eggs wrapped in gator sausage, deep fried, and topped with a cajun sauce.

Living in Louisiana, gator is on a lot of menus. That being said, blackened gator is the best cut up into popcorn like pieces of chicken.

I cooked 12 lbs for the Florida game this year... hahah get it! All I did was cut it into thin strips, dip it into an egg-wash and then battered it with house autry seafood batter. I added a little red pepper and salt to the batter. I then fried it in a big pan on a propane cooker on med-low heat. Have to cook it on a lower temp or else it'll burn on the outside and not cook the inside. Everyone, including myself, that had any thought it was delicious. And FYI, it is supposed to be pink after you cook it, just more on the whiter side of pink, not red.

that was also my response to my nephew ... here, try this gator tail . 10.00 a lb. It taste just like chicken.

Well, my buddy cooked some gator nuggets which he drowned in 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup tobasco sauce then patted dry just a bit, ran them through the flour and then fried them for one minute. Those damn things were mighty fine! Almost made myself sick on them!
Anyway thanks for the responses, just wanted to know what y'all thought on the subject.

I've had some gator tail that were VERY tender and delicious, while I've also had others that were rubbery. Don't know the secret, but when they're good, they're very good.

fried in a pan on a good gas burner/stove is the easiest way to do it. cut the pieces into bite size chunks before you fry. its really good white meat.

I agree, if it tastes like chicken, I'll have the chicken. Whenever someone tells me something tastes like chicken, I always say, "Well, just give me the chicken then".

Years ago I had fried gator. It was really good, but about two days later I had a mountainous zit on my neck. Didnt jive with my body.
