OT: Litchfield/ Golf

  • In Litchfield for the weekend and I need help because I'm a first timer on this end:

    1. What are the best places to eat/carouse in the area?

    2. What golf courses would be suitable for a hacker like myself? I don't want to pay an arm/leg to go knock it around and knock a few back. Also have my dad with me and he is not good at all but he likes to play when we get a chance.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Caledonia and True Blue for golf

  • Frank's to eat.

Play The Heritage. It's Caledonia-esque feel-wise but about half the cost. True Blue is nice too but I actually like The Heritage's layout and feel more than True Blue.

  • Founders Club in Pawleys (formerly Seagull) is a good bet for golf and will be cheaper than Caledonia / True Blue, both of which are great courses, but they are not cheap. Look in the Sports section of the MB Sun newspaper for other area golf deals - they usually have cheap rates offered for afternoon play on local courses.

Frank's and Chive Blossom two of the better restaurants in Pawley's / Litchfield. Probably need reservations for both. Murrell's Inlet has an abundance of bars / restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Hot Fish Club and Dockside are two good ones. Lee's Inlet Kitchen is a old classic if you just want some fried seafood without any frills. Plenty of other solid Choices: Flo's / Devine Fish House / Bovine's etc... Depends on what you want to eat.

  • I'm here in Litchfield now, been here the whole week. After a week of rain, finally was able to get out to The River Club yesterday. Very nice course. There are others in the area that I've played and really liked, but it's the time of the year that a lot of these courses are aerating. So The River Club is a good option as they don't aerate until next week. Check out www.mbn.com for some better rates. Have fun!

Live in PI and work on Litchfield.

eating - $$$$ = Frank's & Frank's Outback; I am a fan of Quigley's Pint & Plate behind the Piggly Wiggly shopping center in Mingo (off Willbrook Dr). Good variety of food (which is good) and Josh brews his own beer (which is good too). Very affordable and laid back atmosphere.

Golf - Budget golf = Tradition; Caledonia is the prettiest course with great views but True Blue is the best true course from a layout. Founders Club would fall in between those two.

  • Franks and Franks Outback!!!

  • The pit for late night. Pawleys plantation for golf (expensive but I lived there for years so biased). Heritage and true blue also good.

Agree with this and would throw in Bistro (i forget the #) in Pawleys as a food option.

  • Bistro 247 (I think) and the Island Deli and Cafe. Two other solid suggestions.

Bistro 217 is my favorite in PI

  • I'm in the area myself for a wedding! Went to The Island Bar & Grill last night, decent food, drinks and music. Loved the cat that basically owns the place. Ladies had their rehearsal dinner at Chive today, they said it was really good. Staying in Pawley's Plantation...beautiful neighborhood and the course looks great too. Went for a run on the beach this AM and man is it gorgeous!

  • I second the recommendation for The River Club. It's not as nice and fancy as Caledonia or True Blue, but it's much less expensive and it's still a really fun course to play.

I am pretty sure your talking about Anthony who owns it. He is a good guy and does well for a bar in the Pawleys Area. For cocktails and a great atmosphere go to the PIT. (pawleys island tavern)
Dinner-Franks outback Chive Blossom Bistro 217 and Nosh are all good, with the preference being Franks and Chive.
Golf-like everyone else has said it depends on what kind of coin your trying to spend. Caledonia and True Blue are the best tracks but youll pay for those. Played Heritage the other day and its in good shape and much cheaper. They also have a twilight deal which is awesome. Pawleys Plantation is a fun course too but its a little on the expensive side...Tradition is a good one also that isnt too expensive.

    Hope this helps

  • Go to Sam's Corner in Pawleys for some drinks after Golf. Then to Neal and Pam's in Surfside for good time and Gamecock Baseball Saturday Night. Gamecocks all around
no CU nonsense in either place. Get a real taste of the beach. Ask for Zach.

  • Franks is probably my favorite restaurant in South Carolina. rack of lamb is the bomb...not sure I've ever had a better meal than the rack of lamb there, be it in New York, Chicago, Boston, Charleston...srs

  • Can't add much. The Heritage is a good layout, not to difficult and fun to play. Don't worry about being a hacker. There are lots of hackers playing those courses, including me.

    Garnet101

  • Willbrook is a decent/reasonable course and Louis's at Sanfords is another good dining option

    tth2001

  • Shout out to Nosh! Franks and Nosh are the best places to eat.

  • Can't go to Litchfield without eating at Franks.

Murrells Inlet late in the day, outside bar (can't remember the name) with cold beer watching the sun set is pretty good too.

    True Blue for golf.

  • Tradition course has one "best maintained course in SC" a few times and the price is not bad. True Blue is long but has room to throw it around. Can't beat the view at Caladonia. Heritage is a nice layout. Founders is tough...greens are just nasty. Pawleys Plantation is a little pricey but nice layout.....typical Nicolas course with a tree in the fairway here and there. Maybe the meanest par 3 in the area on #13. Wachesaw East is not bad for the price either. LPGA has played there in the past.

All the suggestions on the food are good....not really many bad places to eat. I will only add that if you want seafood on the shell or crab legs go to Nances'. Not high in but the best fresh seafood in the area in my opinion. Also if you want flounder go to Sarah Js' going towards the Garden City Pier.

  • I'll second Quigleys, Bistro 217, and Pawleys Island Tavern (PIT). Ate at all three this past week. I must say that the Chive Blossom at the North Causeway of Pawleys Island gave me the best meal that I have had in a long time. The Crab slaw was unreal. The grouper ?stew was also as good as I have had. Pawleys Plantation was a fun course to play. Greens were in very good shape. We had 3-4inches of rain early in the week so the course was a bit boggy on Thursday. Great week. Happy Father's Day guys.

  • Bistro 217 or Louis' at Sanfords for dinner, most of the staff at Franks acts like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to eat there. Caledonia or True Blue for Golf.
