OT: Mickelson shows up early... Link

  • This is why people call him the people's champion. He gets it.

  • Tiger was probably giving his dumpster some cab money about that time.

Exactly right. Phil respects the game and the traditions plus it was very respectful to show respect to the 3 men that made the modern game. Because of Palmer, Player and Jack money and sponsors really came into the game big time.

You do realize Tiger has a lot to do with the money made on tour today right? Probably more than Arnie, Jack and Player. Most players on the tour will tell you that. I don't disagree that they laid the foundation and all of the modern players so show their appreciation to those 3 every chance they get.

W/o Jack, Arnie, and Gary, there likely is no Tiger.

I will have to agree more with Bostoncock. It goes without saying Jack, Arnie, and Gary brought a tremendous amount to the game of golf but I dont feel it had anything to do with Tiger. Tiger brought a completely different group of people to the game of golf. People that couldnt care less about golf. Look at the difference in pay checks, sponsors, endorements since Tiger came along. Again, the big 3 were huge for the game of golf obviously in their time, as well as, today...but Tiger took it to another level. I dont agree with many decisions Tiger's made in life but it kills me the way people judge him. For example, reading the comments on the article. Just because he didnt make it watch the "Big 3" tee off, it automatically means he doesnt care in some peoples eyes. Thats ridiculous.

You miss my point. If those guys didn't popularize the sport, do you think Earl Woods would have been as driven to teach and mold Tiger for it? I don't. Those guys laid the foundation and helped to popularize the sport in the US, drawing in people like Earl Woods, who in turn introduced his son to the sport. That's not knocking Tiger's contributions to the sport. It's just stating that imho without those guys Tiger might not have ever picked up a club.
