OT- Places to Live in COLA

  • I am in the process of interviewing for a company where I'd be based out of Cola, but would handle the state so I dont have to live in a speciific area of cola. I'm looking for a 2 bedroom, looking to pay 600-800/month, was wondering if anyone had good locations or deals that I might not be aware of being out of state. Currently looking on places like craigslist in areas like Rosewood....Any help wil be good

  • I would call the Shandon Group. They manage alot of rentals and probably could help you out. I don't have the number. Good luck!

  • 600-800 per month for a 2 br doesn't get you much. Look in Cayce or in the northeast - both near interstates

  • Ok, looking to rent at less than a 1000/ month

  • Obviously I an biased but you can't beat the Avenues in Cayce, best location for price in greater Columbia. And easy walk/ride to usc sports

  • Totally depends ob what ur looking for. Old shandon can be nice and has a good location but us sketchy. Garners ferry is OK but a bit of traffic. For a new job in cola I'd agree with west cola or cayce. Lexington may be too far

  • If you are looking for an apartment, there are a couple of places on Broad River that are nopt too bad and that is about a 10 minute drive from downtown. I lived in Broad River Trace Apts and they should have rates under 1000 for a two bedroom.

If you want to live in Lexington, there are several places out there where you can live under 1000. There are several 2 bedrooms for around $850. You can PM me and I will give you names.

If you are looking for a house to rent, you can probably rent a 3 bedroom for under 1000. You would have to look around though. I know several people have decided to rent out there houses now since they cant sell them.

  • Two routes you can go to rent in Cola (and I have rented 10 different places in my time living there, so I guess I am sort of an expert)...

    1) Go to apartments.com, apartmentfinder.com, etc. to find a place in a large apartment complex. You should have no problem finding a couple properties in your price range.

    2) Preferred option IMO... there is a business on Devine st. called Rentmart. I do not have their number, but for a fee (I think it was around $70 last time I did it) they will compile a list of every rental property that is MANAGED BY A PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY in the city. You can give them criteria (must have central A/C, must accept pets, 2BR, 2BA minimum, etc) and they will shoot you out a list of properties (addresses, phone numbers for management company, etc) in whatever part of the city you're looking for.

The good thing about Rentmart is you don't have to go around to all 20-30 property management companies to get all their lists individually... and I have always preferred dealing with a landlord instead of an apartment complex. Plus, you can probably find a house for that price, especially in Rosewood. That way you don't have to worry about your neighbors above/below/beside you making noise, or hearing you make noise, etc.

Just my $.02 here, but I had a LOT of success with Rentmart, found every place I ever rented through them.

    Good luck!

I own a place at the gates and the going rate for two bedroom has gone up to around 1300-1400.

  • coming off the interstate and getting on elmwood, everything to the left is a no go if you want to keep your stuff in your house, everything to the right of it will be much better imo.

  • when are you looking to move in? I have a 3BR/2BA house that may be open.

I wish I knew about Rentmart when I lived in Cola. They need something like that in Charlotte
