OT: Tablets...

  • Ok so I have wanted an iPad for some time now. My wife is out shopping and overhears a guy saying that he has an iPad and a Galaxy (honestly, I dunno what a galaxy is, but it is half the price of an iPad) and he likes the Galaxy better. I worry that the OS for something like that might go ovselete far before the iOS, so I guess my question is: what is the best tablet? Is the iPad the best or is there another tablet out there that is better?

  • Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a beast. Slimmer and running android. Android will not be obsolete anytime soon.

  • Ok, I've done my research. Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is like $599 so it is actually more than the iPad2, which is the premier tablet. The Samsung Galaxy 7.0 Plus is $399 and it is a viable option to the iPad with a smaller display. Looks like I'm going with the Amazon Kindle Fire. It is a poor-man's version of a tablet ($199) with a 7" display. Basically it is very limited and not for productivity, but has the typical bells and whistles (browser, music, video, apps). I just need something to have around the house in case I need to look something up without running for the desktop.

The 16 gig is $499 in the Samsung. The 16 gig in the iPad is on sale today for $588.

  • I got the acer iconia 10 inch back in July. I love it, my buddy has the galaxy, I'd suggest it or if you can wait a couple of weeks the asus transformer prime, it's quad core and going to run android 4.0

  • ipad2 is a beast as well, super fast throw in access to the best app and media market in the world (Droid Market isn't there yet) and you will love your ipad. FaceTime with your friends and family members during the holidays, its pretty neat.

  • the Kindle Fire is nice for the price... the only issue i have with it is that it does not support 3g

  • I guess the Kindle Fire is sufficient for what I need. I've got an iPhone so that covers anything that the Kindle doesn't have.

  • Toshiba Thrive 10.1 hands down if you are going to spend that much money it is the best thing going for the price. 16 gig dual processor, front and back camera, android 3.2 honeycomb processor...google it or you can check it out on HSN

I have an EVO and the wife has an iPhone 4. I don't think I can agree with the app statement. I have been very disappointed with the iTunes appworld. Not as many free apps and nothing extra. I will say the security of apple apps is a nice thing but I have not gotten any bugs from any of the free range droid apps.
OP, why not just buy a laptop for 399 that you can type on if you are just going to use it for basic options?? It sure is nice to have a real keyboard??
