OT: Twitter

  • So I started a new twitter account(I'm up to the times as I am just getting started) I understand how it works with two exceptions, 1) Whats the purpose of Hash-tagging? and 2) Why would you use @ instead of #

I know I used twitter for fin files when I blogged, but only would tweet updates, no idea how the # and @ work

  • Hashtags are used for searching, and using @ in front of a twitter name sends a message that's viewable to anyone. Direct messages are private.

@ means you are tweeting at somebody. For example if you wanted to mention me or send something to me that showed up in my mentions you would say @therealmacklin ....

The hashtag is used for searching. So if you are teeting about the gamecocks you would type #gamecocks. You could thing click on that hashtag and it would take you to all tweets that used it. So during an event you find other people talking about what you are watching or doing. Hashtags have also taken on a life of their own and are sometimes meaningless or just a phrase.

  • Funny, yellow. I have been thinking of getting one so I could follow people but I know nothing about it and am sure I will F it up. So if someone wants to give a description for beginners it would be well appreciated

  • You can also type a person's name in the "search" bar. All of the tweets about that person will come up, as well as pictures to the left of different people with that name (not username). You can then click on the correct picture and see what tweets they have made.

  • All I know is when someone follows you, you follow them so as to build your audience and increase your presence. Shortly after you being twitter will send you suggestions of people to follow.
    Y'all can follow me at-whoops @ptgamecockclub

So if someone follows me, I follow them? I don't think thats how it works. I'm following 23 people since last night(almost all CFB guys) but only have 13 followers now(none are the cfb people I follow) I think you're wrong

  • You're not required to follow someone who follows you...it's more of an implied etiquette thing. If you follow, say, David Pollack RG3, or Adam Shefter, chances are they aren't following you back. That said, a lot of people will check to see how many followers you have as a reference to see if you are follow-worthy. Hope this helps...

Make sure that they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans!!!

Not saying everyone will follow you if you follow them. Especially if they're VIPs. Normal joe blows will/may follow as etiquette as stated before. I'm just saying it can be used as a tool to build your posse. I'm no expert at twating. I only use it for our local gamecock club as a way to spread the word about events mainly.

Ah... so how many followers you have is important even if they don't interact? Sounds like the people who really care if they get up-voted and down-voted. In the end, who cares. I started cause my GF's kids do it and wanted me to, and sort of like it. Randomly spout your thoughts on most anything

  • I can't say.....Tweet this. Never even considered it and will not now. People don't talk to one another as it is. They tweet. How sad. I better get myself to church. Peace out!

Yet its so mentally stimulating, coming to a message board, opening up a topic that is "mentally degenerating" to you, and responding to it....Then coming back later to the same thread and responding again. go fly a kite you jag. Good feature about board is I never have to look at another one of your idiotic posts again, unless it is quoted.
